No, that honor goes to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-walking-dead">The Walking Dead</a> </em>- the first episode in Telltale's newest game managed to topple <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/i-am-alive-tops-april-2012-psn-downloads-escape-plan-still-atop/">last month's top dog <em>I Am Alive</em></a>, and was followed by <em>Journey</em> and <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/08/pixeljunk-series-goes-on-sale-today-many-for-1/">thanks to a sale</a>) in May, respectively. <br /><br />On the PS Vita side, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mortal-kombat-2011"><em>Mortal Kombat</em></a> managed to best all comers, unseating <em>Escape Plan</em>, which fell to third place. Taking second was <em>Table Top Tanks</em>, the AR tank battle game that debuted in late May.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/13/the-walking-dead-tops-may-psn-downloads/">The Walking Dead tops May PSN downloads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2012 17:30:00 EST. The sequel to the PSN shooter is "full steam ahead, anchors away and all that ... commotion to that order," Q-Games president Dylan Cuthbert said in a <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/05/18/pixeljunk-shooter-2-in-full-production/">PlayStation Blog post</a>. He promised that not only will <em>Shooter 2</em> be larger than the original game, but that "it will have some features that are new to the PixelJunk series in general." <br />
<br />
If you are not intrigued about the sequel simply because you haven't experienced <em>Shooter</em>, Q-Games has something for you too. On May 25, Cuthbert said, a demo of the original <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> will be released on the PlayStation Network. If you like that, you can buy <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>, like it, and then join us all in waiting for <em>2</em>.<br />

While <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-brotherhood"><em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em></a> may hold the cover spot of the next issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, the July 2010 issue will also feature a "lovefest feature" on <em>PixelJunk Shooter 2</em>, Q-Games' not-yet-announced-but-very-real PSN sequel, according to a <a href="http://twitter.com/TinyManRages/status/13820165421">Tweet</a> from EIC Gary Steinman.<br />
<br />
Considering the <a bitly="BITLY_PROCESSED" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/q-games-dylan-cuthbert-taking-aim-at-more-pixeljunk-shooter/">numerous</a> <a href="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/01/tobecontinuedpjs.jpg">hints</a> of a sequel, we're unsurprised that the game's existence is confirmed by an uneventful <a href="http://twitter.com/TinyManRages/status/13820165421"><em>preview</em></a> of a preview. (It seems Sony is intent on making this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/littlebigplanet-2-revealed-in-june-game-informer/">a trend</a>.) If Sony shows this off at its E3 press conference, just try to act shocked, okay?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/14/pixeljunk-shooter-2-revealed-in-july-playstation-the-official-m/">PixelJunk Shooter 2 revealed in July PlayStation: The Official Magazine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 May 2010 14:00:00 EST. There's no doubt about it -- Q-Games head Dylan Cuthbert is very much interested in making more content for the latest in the <em>PixelJunk</em> series of games, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter">PixelJunk Shooter</a></em>. When he spoke recently to <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/702370/Reaction-Time-Q-Games-Reflects-On-Their-Latest-Downloadable-PixelJunk-Shooter.html">G4TV</a>, Cuthbert said, "for <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> we still have a ton of ideas on the drawing board and the engine has lots of potential we want to use before moving onto our next idea." He also teased the possibility of a full-on sequel, front-loading his last statement with, "normally sequels are just a re-hashing of the ideas in the original."<br />
<br />
Given the <em>PixelJunk</em>'s all-over-the-place history with <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/02/18/pixeljunk-monsters-expansion-pack-coming-soon/">DLC</a> and <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/pixeljunk-monsters-deluxe-invading-psp-this-week/">re-releases</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden-encore">Encore</a> versions, we poked Cuthbert for clarification. When we asked which of the aforementioned options we might see for <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>, Cuthbert told us: "It hasn't been decided yet, as it depends on how much content we end up making. Whatever we end up making, though, it will be even better than the first installment with loads of new stuff. (Obviously I know what some of that stuff is, but I can't say -- all I can say is that fans will be extremely pleased.)" So, there you have it, folks! We're gonna see ... umm ... <em>something else</em> from <em>Shooter</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/q-games-dylan-cuthbert-taking-aim-at-more-pixeljunk-shooter/">Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert taking aim at more PixelJunk Shooter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 13:15:00 EST. Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert doesn't like you, cheap gamer. When quizzed by <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/features/745/FAQ-Dylan-Cuthbert">Develop</a>, the <em>PixelJunk</em> creator described one thing that disappointed him most about the industry: gamers that refuse to open up their wallets. "Gamers complaining about our games being too expensive at 10 dollars. I'm not sure this is an industry problem, but it seems ridiculous that people complain about that price point." Cuthbert seems particularly sensitive about this issue, noting the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/piracy-discourages-future-pixeljunk-psp-port-plans/">rampant piracy</a> of <em>PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe</em> on PSP earlier this year.<br />
<br />
The naysayers seem few and far apart, though. <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em> went on to become the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/final-fantasy-viii-tops-psn-sales-for-december/">second best-selling game</a> on PSN in December. Some members of the Joystiq community have even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/10/psn-thursday-pixeljunk-shooter-drops-into-dangerous-territory/comments/23846693/">suggested</a> the game is worth "more than $10." Obviously, the studio is doing well enough with its PSN endeavors, as Cuthbert confirms that "more <em>PixelJunk</em> is definitely in the pipeline." With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-dungeons"><em>PixelJunk Dungeons</em></a> and presumably <em>PixelJunk Shooter Encore</em> in the works, the indie studio clearly has a lot to work on at the moment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/16/pixeljunk-creator-disappointed-by-cheap-gamers/">PixelJunk creator disappointed by cheap gamers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 16 Jan 2010 08:16:00 EST. <em><strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-faction-guerrilla/">Red Faction: Guerrilla</a></strong></em> <br />
Arriving approximately seven months late to the party, I didn't play <em>RFG</em> until earlier this month when I desperately cobbled together 2009's game releases for a massive pre-GOTY <em>playstravaganza</em>. That marathon came to a long pause while I smashed through the many structures of Mars with my trusty sledgehammer, constantly hearing <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcUBI-YVRY8">"Space A$&amp;%*#&amp;"</a> playing along the way in my mind. Sure, <em>RFG</em> was a bit rough around the edges, but what it lacked in mechanical prowess was more than made up for by the sheer amount of <em>childlike joy</em> I experienced while demolishing everything in my path.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-bens-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Ben's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-bens-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Ben's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 16:30:00 EST. Okay, okay, everyone, settle down. Listen, we know there's been a lot of unrest in this, our first ever "How to Get Into the Top 20 Globally in World 1 Stage 1 for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter"><em>PixelJunk Shooter</em></a>" class. You've been here for three weeks now without ever actually talking <em>Shooter</em> strategies and your whispers are starting to become deafening. "Why does Mr. McElroy take such long naps?" we hear you ask, or, "Why did I have to play $3,000 for this?"<br />
<br />
On this, our graduation day, we have two messages for you. 1. Watch the video after the break and do <em>exactly that</em>. And 2. The magic was inside you the whole time. Now, if a few of you would just stand on your desks and say, "Oh captain, my captain," we'll be on our way.<br />
<br />
... Nobody? Fine.<br />

OK, everyone, let's gather in a circle and repeat: Oh, lords of downloadable games, please guide <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter"><em>PixelJunk Shooter</em></a> to sales. For now is the time of retail and <em>PJS</em> has been released into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-downloadable-titles-should-avoid-q4-release/">the wastes</a>. May it find an audience in this unforgiving time.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/psp-go">PSP Go</a> (and normal PSP) owners have some downloadable games and even a couple PSP minis to choose from. Check out the full <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/psn-thursday">PSN update</a> after the break.<br />

We've posted it above -- as you can clearly see, it contains all of the requisite elements to fulfill the game's moniker: There's <em>pixel</em>ated enemies, a great deal of of <em>shoot</em>ing, and plenty of <em>junk</em> to aim the aforementioned <em>shoot</em>ing at.<br />
<br />
The blog post also contained good news for thrifty fans of the franchise -- on Dec. 22, Q-Games will bundle <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-eden"><em>PixelJunk Eden</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-monsters"><em>Monsters</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-racers"><em>Racers</em></a> together into a single $19.99 bundle. Sounds like a pretty sweet package if you're hoping to receive a new PS3 from ol' Saint Nick this holiday season.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/09/first-three-pixeljunk-titles-bundled-for-20-shooter-gets-a-new/">First three PixelJunk titles bundled for $20, Shooter gets a new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Dec 2009 16:45:00 EST. Q-Games' latest entry in its PSN <em>PixelJunk</em> series will arrive on PlayStation Network <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/12/tis-the-pixeljunk-season/">worldwide</a> next Thursday, December 10. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter"><em>Shooter</em></a> follows the legacy of previous <em>PixelJunk</em> games, by adding a modern twist to old-school gameplay. For those anticipating the release <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PixelJunk-Shooter/">PixelJunk Shooter</a>, VG247 has footage of the first level in action to whet your appetite. Or drive you bonkers because <span style="font-style: italic;">you</span> aren't the one playing it. Clocking in at around 12 minutes, the video gives you a taste of the game's unique blend of shooting and puzzle solving.<br /><br />Sadly the game isn't set to hit the PSN until December 10, according to <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/11/26/pixeljunk-shooter-the-entire-first-level-in-video/">VG247</a>. So for now, all we can do is wait... and dream of a brighter future. Check out the game in action after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter/">PixelJunk Shooter</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter/#2216437"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/pixeljunk-shooter-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="pixeljunk-shooter-01" title="pixeljunk-shooter-01" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter/#2216438"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/pixeljunk-shooter-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="pixeljunk-shooter-02" title="pixeljunk-shooter-02" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter/#2216439"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/pixeljunk-shooter-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="pixeljunk-shooter-03" title="pixeljunk-shooter-03" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter/#2216440"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/pixeljunk-shooter-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="pixeljunk-shooter-04" title="pixeljunk-shooter-04" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-shooter/#2216441"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/pixeljunk-shooter-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="pixeljunk-shooter-05" title="pixeljunk-shooter-05" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/26/shoot-on-sight-pixeljunk-shooters-first-level/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shoot on sight: PixelJunk Shooter's first level</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/26/shoot-on-sight-pixeljunk-shooters-first-level/">Shoot on sight: PixelJunk Shooter's first level</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Nov 2009 18:30:00 EST. This may come as a surprise to many of you, but Twitter is actually good for something other than the distribution of DLC codes and pictures starlets take of themselves in bikinis. Every once in a great while, it's good for a tiny sliver of news, such as when Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert <a href="http://twitter.com/dylancuthbert/status/4142949627">tweets</a> that the company's next title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pixeljunk-shooter"><em>Pixeljunk Shooter</em></a>, is slated to arrive in Japan this December.<br /> <br /> Cuthbert then tweeted a picture of himself in a bikini. Yeah, it got weird.<br /> <br /> <br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/21/cuthbert-says-pixeljunk-shooter-coming-to-japan-in-december/">Cuthbert says PixelJunk Shooter coming to Japan in December</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Sep 2009 13:50:00 EST. Using Comic-Con as its stage and the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/07/28/pixeljunk-shooter-ice-stage-walkthrough-with-producer-matt-morton/">PlayStation Blog</a> as its host, SCEA Santa Monica's Matt Morton showcased a new ice level in the upcoming PSN exclusive, <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>, as well as changes to the game's art and controls. Tweaks weren't the only thing on display, as Morton also showcased new elements in the game, like the ability to transform your ship into a lava spewing powerhouse, melting away the level encased in ice (and our hearts in the process). The more we see of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PixelJunk-shooter">PixelJunk Shooter</a></em>. the more our excitement grows ... and the more we forget <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/25/pixeljunks-shooter-officially-named-pixeljunk-shooter/">the game's boring name</a>. The full walkthrough is served chilled, after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/pixeljunk-shooter-walkthrough-showcases-new-gameplay-features/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PixelJunk Shooter walkthrough showcases new gameplay, features</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/pixeljunk-shooter-walkthrough-showcases-new-gameplay-features/">PixelJunk Shooter walkthrough showcases new gameplay, features</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 16:00:00 EST. After <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/only-you-can-name-pixeljunk-1-4/">opening up naming duties to fans</a>, the next <em>PixelJunk</em> game (formerly <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PixelJunk-1-4/">PixelJunk 1-4</a></em>) has officially been named <em>PixelJunk Shooter</em>. According to the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/05/25/pixeljunk-1-4-drumroll-please-%E2%80%A6/">PlayStation Blog</a> announcement, 10,000 suggestions were submitted for the contest, which was ultimately won by Canadian Mario Paquet. For (somehow) dreaming up the name, Paquet will be included in the game's credits and receive a t-shirt with the game's logo.<br /> <br /> After selecting the official name, runner-up winners were selected by the scientific method of placing various names into a hat. Runner-up winners (and future <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/only-you-can-name-pixeljunk-1-4/">t-shirt recipients</a>) included <em>PixelJunk Depths</em>, <em>S.O.S!</em>, <em>Blaster</em>, <em>Caves</em> and <em>Atlantis</em>.<br /> <br /> According to Q-Games' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dylan-Cuthbert/">Dylan Cuthbert</a>, one of the most popular suggestions for the game was <em>PixelJunk Elements</em>, but the name failed to capture the "shooting side of the game well enough." We don't think the name they ultimately selected will pose the same issue.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/">PixelJunk 1-4</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525087"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_002-4292009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525088"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_004-4292009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525089"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_006-4292009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525090"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_008-4292009-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pixeljunk-1-4/#1525091"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pj1-4_010-4292009-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/25/pixeljunks-shooter-officially-named-pixeljunk-shooter/">PixelJunk's shooter officially named 'PixelJunk Shooter'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 May 2009 17:00:00 EST.
