Make sure to listen to the entire episode, along with new segments, tomorrow!

Just because last year's best games are tallied and totaled doesn't mean we're now completely out of things to play. This week the Super Joystiq Podcast is live once again, but this time we're talking about what we're playing right now. Who knows - maybe something we start playing today will end up on our Best of the Rest lists next year. Maybe.

We'll record the entire segment and it will be available as a standard YouTube video shortly after we finish, and the audio will become a regular podcast for those who are sick of seeing our faces already. If you want to watch live and give us some feedback, leave your comments right here rather than on the YouTube page. We don't like to travel too far from home base.
Super Joystiq Podcast 034 Live: Walking Dead Survival Instinct, Hawken, Anarchy Reigns [It's over!] originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 10 Jan 2013 14:30:00 EST. At least according to Harmonix director of communications and brand management John Drake, who teased a variety of new "Triple A IPs" that the studio has in the works - beyond Dance Central 3 and Rock Band Blitz. "Dance Central and Rock Band are kind of our big established IPs. And man oh man are we working on multiple - like, more than two - new triple A IPs, right now that we can't talk about at all," Drake said on the latest Harmonix podcast.

He got even more specific, pointing out that "none of them are Rock Band or Dance Central titles," nor are they re-releases/new versions of Frequency or Amplitude. "It's not a previous game. It's not Led Zeppelin Rock Band. This isn't - I'm not talking about Rock Band 4. I'm not talking about the next Dance Central game. I'm talking about new, crazy stuff."

And not necessarily music stuff, either, at least not in the strictest sense. "Some of them are music games, some of them are not full-on rhythm action games. Some of them are brand new things that we created from our gut and brains here at Harmonix. Some are things that we're expanding the universe of," Drake detailed.

Though not much concrete information was doled out, Drake was a bit more clear about when we'll hear more. "Crazy stuff to talk about hopefully next year," he said. He worries that one of those projects is more prone to leaking than others, as "There's a lot of people working on one of them." Harmonix? Leak? Never. And it's always possible we'll hear more about those next Dance Central and Rock Band games sooner than the mystery stuff. "There may be some more Rock Band or Dance Central stuff in the works too," he said. The future is unknown.
Harmonix has 'three and/or more' new games in the works, and none are Rock Band or Dance Central originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 15 Jun 2012 17:00:00 EST. We've got a perfect excuse for you to once again don that Big Daddy costume from Halloween of aught seven: a podcast. Wait, wait, hear us out -- the podcast is Irrational Games' own "Irrational Interviews," and stars none other than BioShock and BioShock Infinite creative lead Ken Levine. Oh, also, it's totally Halloween again, so you probably need a costume anyway.

Furthermore, Mr. Levine's speaking with film director slash game developer Guillermo del Toro -- behind films such as Pan's Labyrinth and Blade 2, and heading up creative duties on THQ's inSane -- and it's just the first half of a two-parter. If it were ever a good day to hear two creative virtuosos wax philosophical about making scary monsters, today is that day.
Ken Levine and Guillermo del Toro talk films, monsters, and narrative on latest Irrational Interviews originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 31 Oct 2011 22:30:00 EST. Kojima Productions head honcho Hideo Kojima took to his company's official podcast to address some rumors surrounding his ongoing projects. Rather than elaborating on fans' questions (and potentially spoil Konami's long-term marketing plans), Kojima simply delivered either "Yes" or "No" answers (summed up by Andriasang).

First up: He won't be making any big splashes at next month's E3, (that's a "no"), but he did confirm that there are big plans afoot for next year's 25th anniversary of Metal Gear.

Before you get too excited, he also shot down the dream of a Metal Gear Solid 4 port to NGP, and offered another "No" when asked if MGS5 would be announced next month. As for the 3DS port of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, "yes," it'll arrive by year's end.

Finally, he noted that we won't see Metal Gear Solid Rising's multiplayer anytime soon, never mind at Microsoft's E3 presser (where he will not appear). Now we're hoping that Kojima's big surprise for next year is reversing all of this year's "No" answers.
Tim Schafer and his perfect-for-radio vocal stylings have taken to the casting of pods, releasing the first ever Double Fine "Action Cast." For the inaugural episode, Schafer talks Costume Quest with the game's creative leads (Tasha Harris and Gabe Miller), among other topics. Of note, Schafer says that DF's next downloadable title, Stacking, is "essentially done" and "should be out in early 2011," a more specific launch window than we had previously heard. Also potentially of note, Tasha Harris says she's animating a "super secret project" right now. What could it be?!

As the first show is a pilot, the studio is basing its decision to make more on listener response, so go get vocal in the post's comment section. We quite like the show and are hoping for more .... not that we're trying to influence your opinion or anything.
Double Fine's first 'Action Cast' reveals 'early 2011' release for Stacking originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 20 Dec 2010 16:00:00 EST. PlayStation Home has launched one of its most exciting initiatives yet. The Community Theater is a screen in Home's virtual film house dedicated to bringing players "close to their favorite gaming websites" through "exclusive videos specially crafted for PlayStation Home." The first partner to join Sony's online community is PS Nation, a long-running PlayStation-oriented podcast (which was formerly partnered with Joystiq).

Glenn and the rest of the PS Nation team are working on providing regular updates to the online service. While other outlets haven't been named, this is a good first step in countering Xbox Live's video partnerships, such as IGN Strategize and the OXM Report.
PlayStation Home launches Community Theater with PS Nation originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 19:20:00 EST. This weeks' episode is all about spoiling some Alan Wake. Well, that and talking about people flailing about in front of a Natal unit. If you've yet to finish Alan Wake, you should probably skip the second half of the show. Listen to the first half for some thoughts on Natal and what we hope to see from Microsoft at E3 next week.
We don't have a full-fledged podcast for you this week. We decided we'd rather ingest delicious grilled meats with our families. Fear not, though, for you are not abandoned, as we slapped together a quick preview of next week's jaw-dropping episode. Enjoy.
And then there were two. That's right, it's just Richard and Dave this week. Alexander, jerk that he is, decided to go vacationing in London. That doesn't stop us from gabbing about Alan Wake, Halo: Reach and our own deaths, though. Give it a listen for the news, fanmail and your Twitter questions. Listen closely, because you need to know about the dangers of the Chicago Jump Bear.
Nothing hurts the Joystiq Podcast more than the absence of the utterly charming Justin McElroy, and the lack of the perfectly tolerable Chris Grant threatens to destroy the show completely. But rather than take a leisurely hiatus, Ludwig, Xav (and sometimes Griffin and David) discuss a hectic week in games: Alan Wake, Split/Second, Red Dead Redemption and ... some things that got cut. This is by far the most organized, logical and edited episode in the show's history -- which means it's probably the worst one yet. Oh well!

Don't forget to thank Alan Black for the foreboding photoshop. He's over there, stealing your coffee.
So, our iTunes feed is having a bit of a problem. You know it. We know it. We're working on it. With that out of the way, it's time for another episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast. This week, we talk about new Assassin's Creed, adorable father-and-daughter gaming habits and ... Voltron? Yup. Download it.
The show is a bit on the short side this week, thanks to one Mr. Alan Wake. Still, even with time cut short, we manage to squeak out all the major news this week, including Call of Duty: Black Ops and, of course, the Bungie / Activision partnership. There's also some talk about Alan Wake, so be sure to tune in.
The Joystiq staff, among many other lucky gamers, was fortunate enough to get early access to the Halo: Reach beta this week. Rather than waste all this fun on ourselves, we've decided to check in with you, our loyal listeners. Grab this special Xbox 360 Fancast episode to see what we think of the Halo: Reach beta so far. Will it suck away your soul, or will you stick with Bad Company 2? Give it a listen and here what we've got to say.
Halo: Reach plays a big part of this week's Xbox 360 Fancast. Our own Xav de Matos played the game for several hours last week, and we grill him for the details (jet packs!). Of course, we also take a few minutes to discuss the news out of Captivate 2010 as well as the other important things that happened last week (including even more Halo: Reach news). Don't waste any time, start listening now.
A great many things happen on the Xbox 360 Fancast this week. Of course we talk about the latest news -- including Halo: Reach and the "moistness level" it inspires -- but we also introduce the first X3F produced video game, HinkleBlaster. Also, finally, it's time to roll out our latest recurring feature, Dear Fakey, in which Joystiq's own Kevin Kelly takes listener emails and laces them with Casey Kasem magic. Download this one as you can, and don't forget to try HinkleBlaster (instructions after the break!)
Suffice it to say that there is far too much talk about Justin Bieber this week. A week ago, none of us knew who he was. This week? Fascinated. There's also plenty of talk about video games, including the announcement of Respawn Entertainment, the new outfit founded by ex Infinity Ward heads, Jason West and Vince Zampella. Also, there's some serious discussion about turning the Xbox 360 Fancast into a zany morning radio show. You should download it.
PAX East may be over, but that doesn't mean we aren't done talking about it. Perhaps you've heard that something awfully strange (and illegal) went down there. Yes, the Breach theft. We spend a hefty chunk of the show discussing that this week, along with plenty of news (Halo: Reach!) fan mail and Twitter questions and comments.

Once again, if you'd like to drop us some comments on Twitter, just post a tweet with the #x3f hashtag. Keep an eye on our own Twitter accounts (listed below) to see when we start recording episode 161 next Monday (around 11:30 ET).
PAX East has come to an end, and the whole X3F crew is back together again. In a manner of speaking anyway. We've got two major segments this week. First, Richard grills Alexander and Dave about the magic that was PAX -- as well as some of the news that broke during the show. And second, since Xav was still on the road back to Canadia during recording, we've got a pre-recorded fireside chat with him hosted by Alexander. At the very least, you'll learn never to forget who Angie Harmon is.

Oh, we take some questions via the #x3f hashtag on Twitter. Keep an eye on our Twitter accounts (listed below) next Monday around 11:00am ET when we call for questions for the next show.
You may not be here with us in person, dearest Joystiq reader, but you're with us in our hearts. We're just as sad as you that you couldn't make it all the way to Boston's first ever PAX East, but we've got a whole bunch of pictures of the Joystiq Podcast trio (and the hundreds of people who showed up to the Manticore Theater this evening) for you right now ... live! No, seriously, we're sitting here in the front row. No, we can't stop working. But lookie! Pictures!
This is the part in the post where we make some incredible introduction about how this episode -- recorded following day one of PAX East 2010 -- will change your lives. It will, but that's not the point. Forget that. We're here to tell you about two things: First, you really need to get your butts to the Joystiq Breakfast Event (brought to you Malt-O-Meal!) Saturday morning; and second, Halfbrick's Phil Larsen wants to tell you all about the XBLA-exclusive Raskulls.

Phil -- a former Nintendo.Joystiq team member! -- joins an all-star cast in this brief X3F PAX Special. Actually, Richard didn't make it and although we replaced him with the sultry tones of Joystiq's Kevin Kelly, it's still not the same! Miss ya, Rich!
Rejoice, for the Xbox 360 Fancast crew is whole once again. This week, we have not two, not three, but all four of the Fancasters present and accounted for. We all even manage to stay for the whole episode. How about that? Together, we discuss the rumored Xbox 360 hardware revisions, supposed USB storage support and our hopes for Project Natal. Download the latest episode and fill those ear holes up with love.
It's another week of putting up with a sub-par Richard-less Xbox 360 Fancast, we're afraid, made even worse by the fact we're down two people this week -- Xav won't be joining us. Alexander and Dave try to make a show for you all still, but without the love and guidance of the other two, things kinda go off the rails: both figuratively and literally. So buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy ride filled with more Battlefield: Bad Company 2 gushing, some John Cleese chit-chat and even a surprise phone call -- maybe. Enjoy!
It's a tough week for the Fancasters, who soldier on throughout a show without their usual host, Richard. He's the glue that holds this whole mess of madness, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 praise and Halo: Reach beta excitement together, y'know? Still, a podcast is what you expect and we try our best to create one of those things -- including a Mass Effect 2 spoiler warning at the end of the show!
We're sure that somewhere, someday, gamers will learn what a boycott actually is. Thankfully, that day is still far in the future, allowing us to bask in the hilarity. Also featured on the show this week: News, mail and gold medal fever. But mostly it's just us jawing about how incomprehensible the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 boycott is. Download it and nourish your earholes.
Yeah, the Fancast is a little late this week. We had a little technical problem. You see, technically, we forgot to hit the record button the first time we did the show. We made sure to rectify this error the second time around, and now you have a brand-spankin'-new episode. It's a pretty good one too, filled with news, fan mail and accent abuse. Next time, we'll hit the record button the first time. Promise.
While this week's episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast is chock-full of gaming news, including lots of info from Microsoft's X10 event and a Spoiler Warning segment for Assassin's Creed II, that is not its primary purpose. No, the real reason for this week's episode is to spread the gospel of Ted Tyson's Toyota Town. Truly, if there is a better car-buying experience on planet Earth, the members of X3F have not found it. Just listen to the latest episode and we're positive that you too will learn to love saving money on the best new and pre-owned vehicles that Texas has to offer.
Update: Oh, incidentally, here's the Sonic Cycle image we discussed. After the break, you can also see Casey's Dropbear defense solution.
This week on the Xbox 360 Fancast, we talk about one man's quest to find a copy of the original Mass Effect, what it takes to get into the First Annual Joystiq Blueberry Muffin Tops Breakfast and, just for fun, what Xav thinks of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It is, as always, a laugh and a half. Download the latest episode for all this and more. Also, don't forget that it's okay to drink with strangers, just remember to BYOB*.
We're short one man on the Fancast this week, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about Mass Effect 2. So, expect to hear plenty of (spoiler free) discussion on that, as well as some new fan mail and another birthday shout out. As an added bonus, we get the first fan mail from one of our own hosts. Also, be sure to stick around for the outtakes. Something epic just may be in the offing.
Our buddy Leo LaPorte interviewed Jay Tannenbaum of Sling Media the other week on his Tech Guy Labs podcast live at CES, and reader Jason spotted a little bit of news that will be of interest to PS3 owners. The interview starts at about 33 minutes into episode 629, and in his chat with Leo at 33:35, Tannenbaum mentions that the Slingbox software allows you to stream DVR content to anywhere in the world, including "your phone, your laptop, and soon to even the PlayS -- uh, PS3." Leo responds the same way we would, with an incredulous, "Really?" And Tannenbaum answers in the affirmative.

So, wow, there you go. Presumably, you'll still need a Slingbox to actually sling the media out to your console, and obviously there's no word yet of how the software would be delivered to the PS3 (on a disk like the Netflix app, or via a purchased program like the $30 iPhone app), but eventually you'll be able to watch your Slingbox media, even in 1080i, as Tannenbaum says later in the interview, on your PlayStation 3. Interested?

Update: DustoMan in our comments says that Tannenbaum meant streaming Slingbox through the PS3's browser, as shown in these photos at CES. Still works, we guess, but not quite as groovy.
Slingbox DVR streaming due for PS3, says Sling Media VP originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 19:20:00 EST. This is it folks. 150 episodes of the Xbox 360 Fancast are now in the can, and that's not counting the many special episodes we recorded for events like E3 or the X3F TV video podcasts like XBLA in Brief. That's a lot of episodes. To celebrate, we brought on one of our biggest fans, a man who also happens to be responsible for our fantastic podcast artwork. That's right, it's none other than Chris Majewski, better known to Xbox Live as Magic Whiskey.

As it happens, he's also responsible for some horrifying depictions of X3F's Richard and Alexander, both of which you can view after the break. We're not sure if they're safe for work or not, honestly. You'll just have to make that decision on your own.
Welcome to a shiny new episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast. This week, we talk about Bayonetta, the third party troubles of the Wii and how Natal might alleviate them. We also discuss just how the word "Yo" might be considered offensive by the Xbox Live team. Also, as you may have noticed, our podcast art has been updated to include our latest addition, Mr. Dave Hinkle. The art was once again created by friend of the Fancast, Chris Majewski. Be sure to check out some of his other work right here (and commission some work from him at Commissions [dawt] CSMajewski [att] yahoo [dawt] com).
We tried to get excited about Microsoft's CES 2010 announcements. We really did. Just listen to the latest Xbox 360 Fancast to find out how hard we tried. We also talk -- at great length -- about Bayonetta and its more ... naughty aspects. At one point, a hairy disco ball is mentioned. Give it a listen, and you'll also get a fresh installment of fanmail. Enjoy.
It's unclear just how it happened, but this week's Fancast clocks in at almost two hours. It took a long time. Time that we could have spent writing about games. But, you demand podcast goodness and we must oblige, so prepare for a mountain of emails about underage gaming, the Japanese game industry, delicious dessert islands and more. We also take some time to discuss the NPD numbers and, of course, Starship Troopers.
The Xbox 360 Fancast is back from our Turkey Day Vay-cay, and now it's time for some good, old-fashioned talkin' about games. We've got a ton of news to go over and lots of fanmail too. On top of that, we revisit the topic of Left 4 Dead 2's difficulty level. As if that weren't enough, hear us rant and rave about the movies that defined a generation. Download it, listen to it and make good life choices.
To clear up any misconceptions with "the kids on Twitter," Spike Video Game Awards host Geoff Keighley took to Major Nelson's podcast this weekend and explained that the Halo: Reach trailer on next week's show will be "actual gameplay." That's right, folks: none of that live-action or CG mumbo jumbo. "You'll get a first glimpse at the world of Reach," Keighley told the Major during this week's show. "I think it's going to be the biggest game next year by far."

When addressing the contents of the trailer -- something Keighley claimed to have not seen just yet -- he noted that he thinks people will be shocked by the direction than Bungie is taking, calling it a "huge leap forward." So, Mr. Keighley, it could be said that the studio is reaching new ground then?
So, there isn't a full episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast this week. We're sorry. We were just so busy ingesting turkey over the weekend that we decided to take a little break. Fear not though, we put together a special little message just for you. As a special bonus, our good friend Dropbear says hello. See you next week!
As we diligently promised so many months ago, we're writing another post with the intention of informing you that Robert Ashley's pseudo-monthly gaming podcast, A Life Well Wasted, has just released a new episode. Titled "Help," Ashley's fifth full show profiles a "successful" pinball maker, talks to a man who pledged to give up gaming of all types for one year (and how he lived to tell the tale), and discusses Desert Bus for Hope with the yearly charity event's creators.

We'd normally suggest you run over and grab an Olly Moss poster for the episode to support future productions, but it turns out that all 200 of them already got snatched up. If you've yet to check out the episode, head over to the website and have a listen.
Episode five of A LIfe Well Wasted explores 'Help' originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Nov 2009 10:00:00 EST.
