Pikachu 3DS XL sparks into North America on March 24

Pika! It's been a long time coming, but the much-traveled Pikachu 3DS XL is on its way to North America, and it arrives next weekend on March 24. The yummy yellow edition comes with a 4GB SD memory card, and is priced $199.99.

Nintendo is also incentivizing a buy with one of the two 3DS games coming out on the same day, namely Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. If you register the Pika-portable and one of those two games before April 30, you'll receive a bonus download code for one of five 3DS games.

The five games up for grabs are Super Mario 3D Land, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Star Fox 64 3D, Freakyforms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive, and everyone's favorite college of craft, Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!

New Nintendo eShop releases: Pokemon Mystery Demo, Kersploosh

This is a good week to have a 3DS and an internet connection, with an overwhelming amount of downloadable stuff to enjoy. For free, there's a demo of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity (more of a gate to finity in the demo, we suppose); for relatively cheap, there's the new Kersploosh!, Virtual Console oldie Wrecking Crew, and a week-long discount on the excellent Sakura Samurai.

There are also retail-ish releases, led by Renegade Kid's ATV Wild Ride 3D, a new 3DS update of a game originally released on DS. At $8, it's cheaper than retail. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D launches on eShop today as well.

Nintendo Direct EU release date round-up: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and more

Today's European Nintendo Direct broadcast flung an onslaught of new release dates and windows our way, but after dusting ourselves off we've managed to gather them all up nice and neat into a hopefully helpful post. We've already covered concrete EU release dates for Animal Crossing: New Leaf (June 14), Fire Emblem Awakening (April 19), and others, so let's quickly go over the stragglers.

First up is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, which brings its mix of cute critters and dungeon crawling to the continent on May 17. As for the rest, it's just release windows for now. Splattered across the panes of the spring window are Etrian Odyssey 4 and the download-only Code of Princess, while Project X Zone and a 3DS version of Inazuma Eleven 3, with 3D-enhanced graphics, are baking in the heat of the summer window.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon launches with free Poke Forest DLC

Just like in Japan, the North American release of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity will be supported by downloadable content starting at launch. The first item of DLC, the Poké Forest Mystery Dungeon, will be free from March 24 to April 30.

It'll be accompanied by three other non-free DLC dungeons, with more scheduled to come out throughout April. All of the dungeons will include new items and new Pokémon to meet - which, we understand, is somewhat of a draw for Pokémon fans.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity offers DLC for dessert

For a preview of what will eventually come to the North American version of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, we can peek through the Magnagate into Japan. There, three new dungeons have been released as paid DLC.

Pokapoka Mountain is home to a bunch of Fire type Pokémon, and costs ¥150 ($1.69). Sweets Road is full of desserts that provide XP when eaten. This dessert course costs ¥200. Finally, Ultimate Desert (one 's') is a 99-floor dungeon that limits you to level 5 at the beginning. This challenging DLC is ¥300.

These three are the latest in a line of DLC dungeons to be released since November 23 in Japan. If Nintendo matches this schedule for the March release of the American version, you can look forward to 12 new dungeons in the first two months.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon opens 'Gates to Infinity' on 3DS in March

Pokemon's kid-friendly roguelike spinoff comes to 3DS in North America on March 24. The localized title, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, removes the Japanese title's reference to "Magnagates" presumably because that word is really hard to read.

Magnagates still figure into the game design, however, allowing players to scan any real-world circular shape with the 3DS camera, turning the image of that object into a gate through which new, randomly-generated dungeons can be accessed.

Like other recent releases, Gates to Infinity will be released both as a cartridge and on the eShop.
