Black Rock Studios' excellent racers, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pure"><em>Pure</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splitsecond"><em>Split/Second</em></a>, are sliding to OnLive, the streaming game service announced today. The duo of arcade racing titles will lead the charge for Disney Interactive titles on the service, with <em>LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean</em> up next on the list. And that's not all -- OnLive had a bunch of news to drop just before E3 begins next week.<br />
<br />
For starters, the service will be officially launching in the UK at some point this fall. As with the company's North American debut, UK residents are encouraged to sign up for early "Founding Members" access -- the <a href="http://onlive.co.uk/uk/countdown">official UK site</a> goes live in the coming days. Additionally, OnLive revealed intentions to make its way to a variety of "Intel-based consumer TVs, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes" later this year. The first such devices will begin arriving this fall, and will reportedly stretch beyond <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/04/onlive-coming-built-in-to-new-vizio-tvs-blu-ray-players/">the company's currently deal</a> with consumer electronics manufacturer Vizio.<br />
<br />
Alongside the Intel deal, OnLive plans on launching a "universal wireless controller" that will work with said Intel-based devices. It looks and operates very much like the OnLive MicroConsole controller, and will come with a USB dongle for non-wireless devices. It's said to contain several different radio signals for working with a multitude of devices.<br />
<br />
You'll be able to brag to your friends all about how you're playing high-end PC games on your Intel-based TV on a wireless controller right from within games, pushing brag clips to Facebook. Which is to say, yes, OnLive is getting Facebook integration as well, starting June 7. Now, you'll excuse us if we take a moment to catch our breath.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/onlive-e3-2011/">OnLive (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/onlive-e3-2011/#4186176"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/fbwall1_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/onlive-e3-2011/#4186177"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/universal-controller530pxheaderimg124124-1307059679_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/onlive-gets-disney-interactive-support-universal-controller-he/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>OnLive gets Disney Interactive support, universal controller, heading to UK this fall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/onlive-gets-disney-interactive-support-universal-controller-he/">OnLive gets Disney Interactive support, universal controller, heading to UK this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jun 2011 20:40:00 EST. Black Rock's stuntastic, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEVW-MAoMag">straight out the plastic</a> (<strong>NSFW</strong>) ATV racer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure"><em>Pure</em></a> has vaulted onto the Games on Demand service. The price of admission into <em>Pure</em>'s amusement park of big ramps and bigger air will set you back $19.99. Not sure if that's worth it. Check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/take-note-pure-demo-coming-tomorrow/">the demo</a> through Xbox Live.<br />
<br />
And, now that we're on the subject, could someone undo the supposed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/artist-lists-work-on-pure-2-now-canceled/">cancellation of <em>Pure 2</em></a>? Thanks!<br />

In fact, the company is even promoting a special <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/iptv">IPTV</a> Xbox 360 bundle there, which includes an Elite console, 12 months of subscription for Xbox Live Gold and four games <span style="font-style: italic;">-- </span><em>Lego Batman</em>, <em>Pure</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fable-2"><em>Fable 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-3"><em>Halo 3</em></a> -- all for &euro;259 (about $375).<br />
<br />
The Vodafone Casa TV service not only lets you watch on-demand TV through your Xbox 360, but also grants Portuguese patrons the ability to access content from their set-top boxes and set times for their set-top box to record live television. While users won't be able to directly record content to their Xbox 360, they can still access certain functions of the console while streaming content, including private chat and accepting game invites. <br />
<br />
Existing Vodafone Casa TV subscribers with an Xbox 360 can snag the software for a mere &euro;9.90.<br />

First off, we just want to apologize in advance if this post is the catalyst that forces you to wake up at 3 a.m. on Friday morning. Sincerely, we're sorry. But we just thought you'd want to know that GameStop will be offering some mighty tasty console bundles from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the day after Thanksgiving. For $300, you'll be able to pick up an Elite 360 with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure"><em>Pure</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-batman"><em>Lego Batman</em></a> and your choice of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bakugan">Bakugan</a> </em>or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-4"><em>Call of Duty 4</em></a>, which is sort of like Sophie's Choice, if Sophie had to choose between eating delicious pie or a rusty folding chair. Those same three Benjamins will also net you a 120 GB PS3 Slim with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet">LittleBigPlanet</a> </em>and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-of-war-collection"><em>God of War </em>collection</a>. <br />
<br />
Now, keep in mind that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/joystiq-podcast-118-big-country-edition/">our friend Cheapy D says</a> you'll probably be just as well served getting Black Friday deals from an online retailer like Amazon. We know, we normally don't trust bald people either, but you don't have to wake up before the paperboy this way. We think the choice is pretty clear.<br />

While our mole may not be as prolific or mysterious as some others' we <em>do</em> have an inside man/woman who sent us these images of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/22/ars-mole-predicts-holiday-360-bundle-network-adapter-price-cut/">rumored</a> Xbox 360 Elite Holiday 2009 Bundle. With the inclusion of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Pure/"><em>Pure</em></a><em> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-batman"><em>Lego Batman</em></a> the bundle certainly looks legit, and we think it's a safe bet this is what you'll be seeing on shelves this holiday season.<br /> <br /> Also: "It's More Fun Time on Xbox 360" is a very bad slogan. We hope at this point we don't have to sell you on the validity of Ars Technica's mole. Whoever the guy/girl is, their track record is fantastic, after correctly predicting everything from <a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/01/exclusive-microsoft-to-get-resident-evil-5-bundle-red-360s.ars">the <em>Resident Evil 5 </em>360 bundle</a> to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/26/rumor-ars-technica-mole-foretells-ps3-and-360-price-drop-in-fal/">price cuts the 360 and PS3 just enjoyed</a>. Now, <a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/09/the-250-elite-microsofts-50-rebate-begins-now.ars?comments=1">the mole says</a> that Microsoft will be sweetening the deal this holiday season, packing <em>Pure</em> and <em>Lego Batman</em> in with the Xbox 360 Elite.<br /> <br /> The mole went on to claim that the 802.11n adapter Microsoft has confirmed will debut for $100, while the 802.11g will drop to $79.99. ... Yikes, $20 off a device that should cost $20 in the first place? If true, it's pretty darn cold.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/22/ars-mole-predicts-holiday-360-bundle-network-adapter-price-cut/">Ars' mole predicts holiday Xbox 360 bundle, network adapter price cut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Sep 2009 13:58:00 EST. Professional artist Young s. Ko. has numerous video games under his belt, all listed on <a href="http://ko3d.blogspot.com/">his blog</a> and all likely to be very familiar to you. Why, he's done vehicle art for games such as <em>Need For Speed Shift</em>, <em>Burnout Revenge</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure"><em>Pure</em></a> and even <em>Pure 2</em>. "But wait!" you exclaim. "One of those hasn't come out!" You're right -- <em>Need For Speed Shift</em> hasn't been released yet -- but please, you really need to concentrate on the "Pure 2" thing. That's what this whole post is about.<br /><br />According to the project's description, a sequel to last year's thrilling off-road racer has not only failed to materialize, but may have been sent to the scrap heap altogether. The publishing contract was allegedly canceled (not entirely surprising considering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/07/disney-interactive-revenue-down-citing-lack-of-console-games/">Disney's rough year</a>), dashing our hopes of ever seeing Young's ATV displays, uh, displayed on a TV. Well, maybe not <em>ever</em>. One can hope that developer Black Rock Studios will revisit the four-wheeled franchise after it completes 2010's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/split-second"><em>Split/Second</em></a> ... provided we don't immediately start clamoring for a sequel to <em>that</em> first.<br /><br />Disney Interactive Studios had no comment to offer at the time of publishing. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/147046525/pure-2-2008-platform-playstation3-x-box">superannuation</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/artist-lists-work-on-pure-2-now-canceled/">Artist lists work on Pure 2, now canceled </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 18:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disney-interactive">Disney Interactive</a> has been having a pretty rough year. The company kicked off 2009 with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/disney-interactive-hit-with-layoffs-consolidates-studios/">a handful of layoffs</a>, and now, according to reports at <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23492">Gamasutra</a>, it's also facing a near 20 percent drop in year-over-year revenue. Big surprise? Not exactly, considering the publisher only internally published a handful of games last year (including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/metareview-pure/">critically acclaimed <em>Pure</em></a> and <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/ps3-fanboy-review-turok/">not so critically acclaimed <em>Turok</em></a>). <br /><br />Also not a big surprise, Disney Interactive prez and CEO Bob Iger cites "the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/economy">weak economy</a> and other factors" when explaining his company's less than fantastic financial situation. Let's just hope Warren Spector's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/rumor-deus-exs-spector-working-on-epic-mickey-mouse-project/">"epic" Mickey Mouse game</a> can help to bolster Disney's 2009 lineup.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/07/disney-interactive-revenue-down-citing-lack-of-console-games/">Disney Interactive revenue down citing lack of console games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 May 2009 15:15:00 EST. In a rather surprising move, Disney's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure"><em>Pure</em></a> has also received a Trophy patch. You'll have to break out some truly insane stunts if you want to get the Platinum. The patch will be <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/05/04/trophies-coming-to-pure-this-wednesday/">available</a> on May 6th.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]<br /><br />

If you only take your octane in <em>high</em>, then this bit of news is likely to put your pedal right down to the <em>metal</em>, as Disney Interactive Studios has officially unveiled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/split-second"><em>Split/Second</em></a>. Set for release early next year on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, <em>Split/Second</em> is described as an "action-racing game where speed meets strategy in a city rigged for destruction."<br /><br />The press release also mentions <a href="http://www.splitsecondvideogame.com/">a new site</a> for the game, although that doesn't seem to have gone live yet. And, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/07/split-second-debut-trailer-is-highly-destructive/">suspected</a>, Black Rock has created a world where "competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction," so expect plenty of <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093894/quotes">Running Man</a> </em>jokes on our end as we write about the game in the future.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/split-second/">Split/Second</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/split-second/#1424549"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/split_second_grayscale_final-3112009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/split-second/#1424552"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/airport_027-3112009-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/split-second/#1424553"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/airport_035-3112009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/split-second/#2074781"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/xsplitsecond_image_airport_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/split-second/#2074782"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/xsplitsecond_image_docks_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/dis-officially-announces-split-second-for-pc-ps3-xbox-360/">DIS officially announces Split/Second for PC, PS3, Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 11:49:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/05/pure-devs-new-racer-split-second-to-debut-march-6/">As promised</a>, last night's episode of GameTrailers TV brought our first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/pure-developer-blackrock-teases-new-action-racer/">non-fuzzy look</a> at <em>Pure</em> developer Black Rock Studio's upcoming racing title, <em>Split/Second</em>. Keighley's ominous warning seems accurate -- it appears to be trying to give <em>Burnout</em> a run for its money. However, rather than participating in high-speed (probably illegal) street racing for your own amusement, it looks like <em>Split/Second</em> will be placing your automotive exploits in front of an enraptured televised audience.<br /><br /><em>Split/Second</em> will also add a neat gameplay element hinted at in the trailer -- it looks like players will be able to "trigger" destructive events on the track in order to impede their opponents (or themselves, if they're not on top of their respective games). Watch the trailer if you want an example. The developers promise further info about the game next Wednesday -- til' then, you can <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=50&amp;starttime=160">check out the trailer here</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/07/split-second-debut-trailer-is-highly-destructive/">Split/Second debut trailer is highly destructive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 07 Mar 2009 12:30:00 EST. (Someone had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/13/rumor-pure-devs-tease-new-racing-game/#continued">leaked it</a> onto YouTube last week.) Good news: It's another racing game. But it's not <span style="font-style: italic;">Pure 2</span>. Not by a mile.<br /><br />The purposefully obscured footage provides a glimpse at what looks to be an action-filled arcade racer, one that's part <span style="font-style: italic;">Ridge Racer</span>, part <span style="font-style: italic;">GRID</span> and part <span style="font-style: italic;">Midnight Club</span>. We get some very stylized cars, a huge crash and ... an exploding gas station. More on the game is promised for March 11. With off-road racing suitably <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/disney-announces-pure-plans-to-redefine-off-road-racing/">redefined</a>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure">Pure</a> </em>dev Blackrock looks to be taking its show on the road. A new viral video seemingly for the studio's next project has <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4RluJON7nU">pulled out onto the internet</a>, teasing street racing, crashes and more than a passing resemblance to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>. In fact, assuming the video itself was posted by Blackrock, the fact that it is tagged with both "burnout" and "paradise" seems to indicate that the former Climax Racing studio is looking to Criterion's open-world racer as a template for its next sprint to the finish line. <br /><br />Nothing else is known, though the brief glimpse concludes, "To Be Continued March 11, 2009," leaving us time to run to the concession stand for popcorn before finding out more.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Update:</span> This is no longer a rumor, folks -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/pure-developer-blackrock-teases-new-action-racer/">check it out</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Chris]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/13/rumor-pure-devs-tease-new-racing-game/">Rumor: Pure devs tease new racing game [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Feb 2009 08:30:00 EST. After finally getting into the booth, attendees were faced with the choice of which long line they'd want to wait in next to play a game. When I got inside the booth and surveyed the selection, my first pick was <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/excite/">Excite Truck</a></em>. Once I'd finally gotten my hands on the controller and made a few laps around the track, I knew this would be a day one purchase for me. <br /><br />Even after scoping out the upcoming stuff for Xbox 360 and PS3, I was convinced that <em>Excite Truck</em> embodied the true essence of the "next generation." New gameplay dynamics met vast dynamically changing terrain that stretched beyond what we had grown accustomed to. <br /><br />So when Disney Interactive showed their new ATV racer, <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure">Pure</a></em>, with vertiginous jumps, wild tricks, and expansive vistas, I thought I was looking at the spiritual successor to one of my favorite Wii launch titles, but a Wii version was not in the cards. At least we have a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.bigdownload.com/games/pure/pc/pure-demo/">PC version</a> to hack together a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/glovepie">GlovePIE</a> script for and give it the <em>Excite Truck</em> treatment. <br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/revolutionary-pure-excitement/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revolutionary: Pure Excitement</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/revolutionary-pure-excitement/">Revolutionary: Pure Excitement</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 22:00:00 EST. We're been excited for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Pure/">Pure</a> since E3, when we first got our hands on the ATV racer. Built by Blackrock Studios (formerly known as Climax Racing) <em>Pure </em>is gorgeous, with a <em>Burnout</em>-esque structure and a "why has no one thought of this" boosting risk/reward system that's just brilliant. Here's what the rest of the internet thought:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/games/pure/xbox-360/game-reviews/review/7516/2130/">GameDaily</a> <strong>(90/100)</strong>: "When it comes right down to it, though, <em>Pure </em>has some of the best racing action we've seen all year. The throttling gameplay, gorgeous presentation and sweet multiplayer options make it a ride you cannot miss."</li>
    <li><a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/910/910309p1.html">IGN</a> <strong>(86/100)</strong>: "<em>Pure </em>delivers an outrageous, arcadey off-road racing experience with style and slickness. The controls are intuitive, the tracks are pure eye candy and the tricks are so crazy and over-the-top that you'll find yourself gasping with glee when you land your first Lazy Girl."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3169967&amp;p=4">1UP</a><strong> (83/100)</strong>: "Thrilling on the ground, downright heart-stopping in the air, and beautiful throughout, Pure's a blast from start to finish. A career mode would've gone further than the game's 'World Tour' in fully eliminating repetitiveness, but Black Rock has otherwise built a real winner here."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/xbox-360/reviews/132364.Pure/">Gameplanet</a><strong> (85/100)</strong>: "This is a great example of what can be achieved if fun is the primary aim. Massive tricks, amazing scenery, hugely modifiable bikes - what more do you want?"</li>

It's almost like magic. The first day of Autumn hits tomorrow and the game industry intends to start the season as it means to go on. In short, by throwing game after game directly at your face until your wallet sits empty and your hands are blistered from constant gaming. Ouch. Release dates are constantly subject to change, so contact your local retailer if you're uncertain. Feel free to go on an import spree if you feel like it, but keep in mind that DLC for any game generally has to be bought from the PSN store of the same region.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/21/worldwide-ps3-releases-for-the-week-of-september-21st/">Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of September 21st</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Sep 2008 17:25:00 EST. Disney Interactive Studios has informed us -- by means of a very elaborate musical number -- that its edge-of-the-seat ATV racer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure"><em>Pure</em></a>, has shipped out and should be available in "all major retailers" on September 23. Several online retailers are already sending out copies, however, so you'd best check in with your favorite store if next week lies outside your boundaries of patience.<br /><br />If you're not sold on developer Black Rock Studio's high-flying bag of tricks, there's a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/take-note-pure-demo-coming-tomorrow/">downloadable demo</a> waiting for you on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation store.<br />

The big releases are starting to drip out as the industry steadily ramps up for yet another packed holiday season. This week, the Xbox 360 plays host to some decent titles including the likes of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2"><em>Rock Band 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure"><em>Pure</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>. On top of those, we've also got <em>Armored Core: For Answer</em> and ... um ... <em>Battle Fantasia</em>. To our disappointment, we have learned that <em>Battle Fantasia</em> is <em>not</em> a fighting game about the Disney movie <em>Fantasia</em>. It's a shame, really, because we were ready to throw down with some <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kujWSIFoe94">tutu-wearing hippos</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/new-games-this-week-rock-band-2-edition/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/shipping-this-week-rock-band-2-unleashed-edition/">Shipping this week: Rock Band 2 Unleashed edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Sep 2008 12:30:00 EST. Don't forget, release dates are constantly subject to change, so check with your local retailer if you need any of the above information confirmed. We're now only a month away from one of our most anticipated titles of the year -- <em>Dead Space</em> starts the holiday season off on October 14th and after that it's a terrifyingly expensive avalanche of titles until years end.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/14/worldwide-ps3-releases-for-the-week-of-september-14th/">Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of September 14th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 14 Sep 2008 18:00:00 EST. We said in our "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/new-games-this-month-sept-2008/">New Games This Month</a>" post that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Pure/">Pure</a></em> was the best racing you weren't anticipating, and believe us when we say we weren't, in the parlance of the hills, just whistling Dixie. It an incredibly smart take on ATV racing that intertwines your turbo and combo meter to create a risk/reward dynamic unlike anything else we've seen in the genre.<br /><br />Now, you'll get to see what all the fuss is about firsthand when demos for <em>Pure </em>land on Xbox Live and PSN tomorrow. Just don't come crying to us that you weren't warned before your face got rocked <em>clean off</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/take-note-pure-demo-coming-tomorrow/">Take note: Pure demo coming tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 11:00:00 EST. If you've read Andrew's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/ps3-fanboy-hands-on-pure/">hands-on preview</a> for the off-road arcade racer known as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure/"><em>Pure</em></a>, you would know that a demo was promised for sometime in September on PSN. That playable demo will be arriving sooner than expected as it's hitting this Thursday, September 4. <br /><br />The demo will take gamers on a three-lap race against 15 other opponents. It'll be on the Italian Mount Garda track -- one of 35 different tracks available in the game. A tutorial on controls is also included, as usual.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/pure-demo-out-this-thursday-on-psn/">Pure demo out this Thursday on PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Sep 2008 15:00:00 EST. Along with a quick tutorial mode, the demo will include one racing location, the Italian Mount Garda track, but we don't believe there to be any online support. We had a chance to play a small demo of Disney Interactive's upcoming <em>Pure</em>. The off-road racing game will be available on both PS3 and Xbox 360 in September and our first hands-on with the game felt promising. This off-road arcade racing game is all about air, with an emphasis on giant hills and jumps and mid-air stunts. It's a rather amusing sight to see a pack of a dozen racers all jump magically into the air as they compete for pole position.<br /><br />For PS3 fans, this game will most likely remind them of <em>MotorStorm</em>. However, the similarities between the two are few and far apart. Yes, the game features the same dirty off-road environments that the PS3 franchise is known for. And yes, knowing when to use boost is crucial to the gameplay. But, the vehicles of <em>Pure</em> are much more responsive than the ones in <em>MotorStorm</em>. Turns are a lot easier to handle, which should help attract a more casual audience.<br /><br />Players will have to work to earn their boosts. Before each hill, players will push down on the analog stick and flick it forward to launch the riders into the air. While flying, players can input buttons: X for easy tricks, O for harder tricks and Triangle for the hardest tricks. The boost meter increases with each successful trick, and having more boost unlocks more complex tricks in the air. Pulling off and landing the tricks are surprisingly easy.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/ps3-fanboy-hands-on-pure/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PS3 Fanboy hands-on: Pure</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/ps3-fanboy-hands-on-pure/">PS3 Fanboy hands-on: Pure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 12:30:00 EST. This is it, folks. The winners of the official Game Critics Awards for E3 2008 - as chosen by 36 representatives (including yours truly) from most of the leading video game outlets - have been revealed. Leading the pack with two wins each are <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fallout-3/">Fallout 3</a> - winner of "Best of Show" and "Best RPG" - along with <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/LittleBigPlanet/">LittleBigPlanet</a> - winner of Best Console game and Best Social/Casual/Puzzle game.<br /><br />The top publisher was EA (just like in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/the-joystiq-e3-2008-awards/">our own awards</a>) with five wins, while Sony took second place with an impressive three wins. In terms of platform concentration, the Xbox 360 barely edged out the competition with eight wins versus both the PC and PS3's seven (for those of you keeping track, the Wii only managed one win and that was for its version of <span style="font-style: italic;">Madden 09</span>). We've got the full list after the break, or check out the Game Critics site for the <a href="http://www.gamecriticsawards.com/win-stats-2008.html">breakdown by publisher and platform</a> or refresh your memory with this <a href="http://www.gamecriticsawards.com/nominees.html">list of nominees</a> in the various categories.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/05/e3-awards-fallout-4-best-of-show-littlebigplanet-best-cons/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 awards: Fallout 3 = Best of Show; LittleBigPlanet = Best Console game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/05/e3-awards-fallout-4-best-of-show-littlebigplanet-best-cons/">E3 awards: Fallout 3 = Best of Show; LittleBigPlanet = Best Console game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 16:30:00 EST. Considering the teaser trailer was shown a few days before today's ingame release, we thought the loyal X3F army would want to compare both videos. Our impressions of the ingame footage? It looks like a lot of fun and if all the pieces fall together correctly it could be the closest thing Xbox 360 owners will have in the same vein as Sony's PS3 exclusive <em>Motorstorm</em>. Check out the CG teaser after the jump and let us know how close you think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disney-interactive">Disney's</a> dev team at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black-rock">Black Rock</a> got to the game itself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/pure-ingame-trailer-vs-cg-teaser/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pure ingame trailer vs. CG teaser</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/pure-ingame-trailer-vs-cg-teaser/">Pure ingame trailer vs. CG teaser</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 11:15:00 EST. Simulation, arcade, kart, destruction, clown-car and off-road are all standard in the racing world and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disney-interactive">Disney</a> has just announced plans to jump into the fray. Introducing <em>Pure</em>, an off-road experience that's promised to "redefine" the off-road sub-genre. However, with the recent releases of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dirt">Dirt</a></em> and the PS3 exclusive <em>Motorstorm </em>off-road racing has been getting a strong push for quality releases.<br /><br />While the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC title isn't slated to hit shelves until late 2008 it's unclear how Disney's Brighton, England studio Black Rock, formerly known as Climax Racing, is going to wow audiences. While we're sure the studio is passionate about the possibilities new hardware offers, the buzz-word promises they threw at <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=33104">GI.biz</a> of "breakneck racing" and "jaw-dropping aerial tricks," just invoke memories of Black Rock's previous franchise <em>ATV Off-Road Fury</em>. But hey, here's hoping they'll prove us wrong.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/disney-announces-pure-plans-to-redefine-off-road-racing/">Joystiq</a>]<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/disney-announces-off-road-racer-pure/">Disney announces off-road racer Pure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Feb 2008 13:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/motorstorm/"><em>Motorstorm</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/DIRT/"><em>DiRT</em></a>, that game with Ivan "Ironman" Stewart -- these are among the elite of off-road racing titles, having set the bar ridiculously high for other games to follow. Disney, however, has its dirt-encrusted sights set higher by announcing <em>Pure</em>, an upcoming off-road racer that it claims will "redefine the off-road racing genre." <br /><br />In development for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the game is currently being dragged through the mud at Disney's Brighton, England studio Black Rock, formerly known as Climax Racing, a studio known for such racing franchises as <em>Moto GP</em> and <em>ATV Offroad Fury</em>. Even with this experience, however, we're not exactly sure how Disney's plans reshape how we think about off-road racing, though it might have something to do with what it calls "breakneck racing" and "jaw-dropping aerial tricks," all of which are apparently being overseen by stunt guru and ATV filmmaker <a href="http://www.hbombfilms.com/home.php">Wes Miller</a>. Still, we've read these sorts of claims before, and while the initial bath of media looks interesting it's a good bet our jaws are in no danger of hitting the floor just yet.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/">Pure</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641622"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9419screenshot_011w_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641621"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9418screenshot_009w_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641620"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9417screenshot_006p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641619"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9416screenshot_005p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641617"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9415screenshot_002p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/disney-announces-pure-plans-to-redefine-off-road-racing/">Disney announces Pure, plans to "redefine" off-road racing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2008 09:30:00 EST.
