Blizzard began launching the patch today, October 16, and the game will be under scheduled maintenance at staggered times in each region.

Maintenance for the Americas began at 3 a.m. PT and will conclude at 1 p.m. PT. Europe's maintenance begins at 6 p.m. PT and concludes at 4 a.m. tomorrow, October 17. Asia will be under maintenance from 1 p.m. PT on October 17 to 11 p.m. PT that same day.

The PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home may not be accessible during this time, but online play and other apps such as Netflix and Amazon Instant will run as normal, provided you've signed into the network at least five days prior to Thursday. This means do it now if you have big PSN plans tomorrow.

In preparation for the NXE launch this Wednesday, Xbox.com and the Xbox forums will go offline for about four hours starting at 12:01AM Pacific today, Nov. 18.

According to Major Nelson, this will "NOT" affect Xbox Live and service should remain (relatively) reliable. If things do go wrong with the Live service, be sure to leave little love letters to Microsoft in the comments below.

After we were tipped about "essential maintenance work" being conducted in Europe on the PSN, we contacted Sony to find out if North America would be shutting down for a time as well. Turns out, it is. The PSN is scheduled to be unavailable tomorrow, Oct. 14, during the following time:
  • 11AM - 4PM Pacific
  • 2PM - 7PM Eastern
Be sure to plan accordingly and get those petitions ready demanding a refund for the downtime.
