Submitted to <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/15kekq/a_portable_super_nintendo_i_made_last_year/">Reddit</a> by one robotairz, this puppy looks like it could withstand the rages of a gorilla jonesing for some <em>Donkey Kong Country</em>. The unit runs on internal, rechargeable batteries, and can also be powered directly by a wall outlet. <div style="text-align: left;">While the image above appears to be a Super Nintendo controller with its cord mercilessly ripped out, it is actually much more. It is, in fact, the shell of an SNES controller stuffed with the guts of a <em>fantastically</em> ugly Bluetooth controller. The project was created by a modder known as <a href="http://moddedbybacteria.wordpress.com/">Bacteria</a> (no stranger to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/30/modder-invents-portable-turbografx-16-again/">awesome mods</a>). All the buttons function properly with the exception of the select button -- the Bluetooth controller only had a start button, you see -- and it runs on a single AA battery. Basically, it's the <em>perfect</em> way to enjoy all those legally obtained Super Nintendo games you have sitting on your hard drive.<br />
<br />
You can check out a video of the controller in action after the break. If you'd like to make one of your own, you can find a full guide <a href="http://moddedbybacteria.freeforums.org/msi-bgp100-bluetooth-device-a-nintendo-snes-controller-t75.html">here</a>.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/man-creates-bluetooth-snes-controller-makes-us-jealous/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Man creates Bluetooth SNES controller, makes us jealous</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/man-creates-bluetooth-snes-controller-makes-us-jealous/">Man creates Bluetooth SNES controller, makes us jealous</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 May 2010 14:15:00 EST. So you're not in suspense, the answer the the question we've presented in the headline is "No." In fact, we'd guess that ancient, primitive cultures given a glimpse of this lovely mod would instantly build an fortified temple around it, taking breaks from worshipping it only to make more progress in <em>ActRaiser</em>.<br /><br />So, in closing, Darthchris 13, we'll take 30. And try to have them ready by the weekend, OK?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/14/portable-snes-mod-is-slick-enough-to-hit-retail/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/could-this-portable-snes-look-any-better/">Could this portable SNES look any better?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Aug 2009 13:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/snes">SNES</a> you see above, ladies and gentlemen, is no SNES at all. It is, in fact, a fully functioning PC (an Acer Aspire One netbook, if you want to know). Built by quangDX and DuPPs of <a href="http://www.asobitech.com/remix/aaSNES1/">Asobitech.com</a>, the AASNES1 packs all the connections you need, WiFi and even some cool USB extension cables that plug directly into the console's controller ports (its makers also modified a Super NES controller to work as a USB controller). The DVD-RW drive is located inside the <em>Super Mario World </em>cartridge and the modders even made the Super Nintendo logo on the back light up. It is, in summation, <em>sweet</em>.<br /><br />Check out a video of the AASNES1 after the break and head over to Asobitech for a step-by-step retelling of its creation.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/snes-pc-case-mod-scores-endless-style-wins-can-never-bring-back/">Engadget</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/20/modders-gut-an-snes-cram-in-a-pc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Modders gut an SNES, cram in a PC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/20/modders-gut-an-snes-cram-in-a-pc/">Modders gut an SNES, cram in a PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Jun 2009 01:00:00 EST. Once upon a time there was a girl who had limited use of one of her hands. Not to worry, she is still able to game after mastering the use of a Super Nintendo controller. However, she also enjoys the PSP but is understandably reluctant to learn how to play it with one hand. What's a gal to do?<br /><br />Fortunately, a clever bloke was commissioned to create a mod for her so she can use the SNES controller to play games on her PSP. Here's how it happened: he added a small socket originally intended for a cell phone, put together a custom cable and plug for the socket, then wired it to be used with the vintage controller. The mod even acts as a stand and keeps the PSP at an angle. A video of this in action, after the break:<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/30/video-psp-beautifully-modded-to-accept-snes-controller/">Engadget</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/psp-mod-allows-the-use-of-a-snes-controller/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSP mod allows the use of a SNES controller</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/psp-mod-allows-the-use-of-a-snes-controller/">PSP mod allows the use of a SNES controller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 16:30:00 EST. And we thought you'd might like to see it too. <a href="http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/feature-engineer-builds-portable-wooden-snes-runs-starfox-video-">TechEBlog</a> has featured one of the strangest things to come out of the woodwork in a while -- one SNES squeezed into a somewhat portable wooden case and outfitted with speakers, a PSOne screen and a headphone jack.
