What is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ssx-deadly-descents">SSX: Deadly Descents</a></em>? It's the next SSX game of course, silly! A brief trailer shown at tonight's Spike VGAs shows a distinctly darker, <em>bro-ier</em> snowboarding game than we're used to from the series -- "Nothing is more bone-chilling than reality!" is its tagline, for instance. Some consolation? The game will apparently use real world landscapes. Then again, we're happy as all get out to see <em>anything</em> from SSX.<br />
<br />
So, in summary: snowboarding, SSX, EA, bros, real-world environments. We've added the trailer after the break, so head past and see for yourself!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/11/ssx-deadly-descent/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SSX: Deadly Descents debuts at Spike VGAs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/11/ssx-deadly-descent/">SSX: Deadly Descents debuts at Spike VGAs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Dec 2010 21:45:00 EST. We'll be honest, we <em>somehow</em> let the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/kinect">Kinect</a> title <em>Adrenalin Misfits</em> -- known as <em>Crossboard7</em> outside of North America -- slip by during both E3 and Gamescom. We're not sure how it happened, because the trailers are <em>priceless</em>. They instantly evoke the memories of Wii launch titles, starring incredibly enthusiastic children and families just having a grand old time.<br />
<br />
The "crossboarding" game offers several modes of play, including both single-player and multiplayer races and minigames. It also features unlockable boards and the ability to play as either an in-game character or your Xbox 360 Avatar. Also, if you can believe it, <em>YOU are the controller</em>.<br />

Our knowledge of the fast-paced, edgy world of extreme sports is limited to "standing on moving, thin slivers of wood is really difficult," though we don't need to know much more than that to appreciate the gaming-influenced video posted below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/14/real-life-snowboarding-meets-old-school-gaming-in-gnarcade/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Real life snowboarding meets old-school gaming in 'Gnarcade'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/14/real-life-snowboarding-meets-old-school-gaming-in-gnarcade/">Real life snowboarding meets old-school gaming in 'Gnarcade'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jul 2010 11:03:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tony-hawk-shred"><em>Tony Hawk: Shred</em></a> is an actual thing that's coming, this much <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/22/tony-hawk-shred/">Activision itself confirmed</a>. And we have it on good authority from our Joystiq Superspy[TM] that the latest game to bear the Tony Hawk name will not only let gamers shred pavement, but also some fresh powder: the game will incorporate snowboarding -- a first for the traditionally skateboarding-only series.<br />
<br />
It's been a tough time for the <em>Tony Hawk</em> series lately. <em>Tony Hawk: Ride</em>, which introduced a plastic peripheral, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/tony-hawk-2010-game/">didn't do so well</a>. And with competition from EA's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Skate-3">Skate</a> </em>series, as well as newcomer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Shaun-White-Skateboarding"><em>Shaun White Skateboarding</em></a> emerging on the scene, it's not going to be easy for <em>Shred </em>to stand out from the competition.<br />
<br />
We're expecting to hear more on <em>Shred</em> at E3 next week. We'll let you know what we find out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/09/rumor-tony-hawk-shred-will-include-snowboarding/">Rumor: Tony Hawk: Shred will include snowboarding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 18:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: right;"><small>[<a href="http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-tony-hawk-ride/17-1665/">Giant Bomb</a>]</small></div>
In the realm of games that cost over $100 released by Activision this holiday season (we're counting four including the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/modern-warfare-2-prestige-edition-includes-working-night-vision/">Prestige Edition <em>Modern Warfare 2</em></a> pack), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tony-hawk-ride"><em>Tony Hawk Ride</em></a> wasn't one that we thought of as a <em>hot ticket</em> <em>item</em>. The man who lent his name to the series, however, has a different take, saying in a recent interview with <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6241085.html">GameSpot UK</a> on the prospect of a sequel to <em>Ride</em> that "We have already started that process, but who knows what the future holds." <br />
<br />
Additionally, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/robomodo-hints-at-new-software-for-ride-per/">multiple</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/tony-hawk-ride-board-to-be-used-for-many-games/">people</a> at <em>Ride</em> developer Robomodo have already intimated, Hawk confirms plans to put the game's board to use in other places - specifically, the <em>woefully underserved</em> snowboarding and surfing game genres. Hawk even speaks of resurrecting one-shot last-gen game <em>Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer</em>, saying, "I always thought that <em>Kelly Slater's</em> [<em>Pro Surfer</em>] was an underrated title for the PlayStation 2 ... I thought that people didn't really give it the attention it deserved." And us, well, we're still hoping that someone makes a bicycle peripheral so that we can <em>finally</em> get the reboot of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downhill_Domination"><em>Downhill Domination</em></a> that we've been waiting for.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/23/tony-hawk-talks-ride-sequel-confirms-board-for-snowboarding-and/">Tony Hawk talks Ride sequel, confirms board for snowboarding and surfing games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Nov 2009 22:00:00 EST. Robomodo CEO David Michicich hinted that more software for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tony-Hawk-RIDE/"><em>Tony Hawk: RIDE</em></a> skateboard controller could be on its way. When asked if the developer had other ideas for the peripheral's use outside of the skating genre in an interview with <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/33283/Tony-Hawk-Ride-team-hint-at-boarding-other-genres?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+developmag%2Fifbh+%28Develop%29">Develop</a>, Michicich replied, "We're doing a game with Activision and we're not allowed to talk about it right now."<br />
<br />
In June 2009, Robomodo president Joshua Tsui <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/tony-hawk-ride-board-to-be-used-for-many-games/">commented</a> that the (probably going to be involved in its fair share of accidental injury lawsuits) peripheral could be used for a variety of software. "The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such," he told <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/many_games_planned_for_tony_hawk_board_peripheral.html">Videogamer</a>.<br />
<br />
With a new entry into the <em>Tony Hawk: RIDE</em> franchise <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/tony-hawk-ride-sequel-already-planned/">probably</a> already in the planning stages, it appears the hardware will see new software to help lighten consumer guilt. Sure, our dream is for some kind of Lumberjack Simulator to be in development, but the controller will more than likely focus on something closer to snowboarding. If <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/18/ea-done-with-boogie-franchise-for-now-ssx-revived-if-market-is/">EA hasn't jumped</a> on that train yet, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/ea-chicago-exes-take-up-with-activision-form-robomodo/">former EA employees</a> are more than welcome to try.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/robomodo-hints-at-new-software-for-ride-per/">Robomodo CEO hints at new software for RIDE peripheral</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 18:45:00 EST. Sure, there's manufactured virtual pals to laugh at and stereotypical caricatures of foreigners from countries you never bothered to learn about in there, but the warm, nougety center of snowboarding goodness seems warm and inviting enough.<br /><br />Also, what's with that logo? Why is Shaun White's hair the dot on the "i?" To get some more info, we got in touch with Bongfish game director Michael Putz.<br /><br />As Bongfish looked to the feedback from fans and as its plans for enhancing the game became more and more ambitious, the developer chose to re-release the game in a kind of "director's cut," as opposed to just patching the original game. Putz also said that since the original released in February, the retail climate wasn't as kind as it is, say, during the holidays -- hence <em>Big Air Edition</em>'s outing on November 24. <br /><br />In the new version, Putz says gamers will have access to "all new race challenges, big air/slopestyle events, speedier gameplay, new lighting and a more accommodating learning curve that removes the previous edition's 66 famepoint barriers, which locked most users out of the exciting part of the game."<br /><br /><em>Stoked: Big Air Edition</em> will shred retail powder on November 24 with a MSRP of $39.99. For a cutesy game about cartoony, low-detail characters in vast expanses of snow, Namco Bandai's <em>We Ski</em> series looks a lot better than it needs to. Not that we're complaining! We'd always prefer to <em>enjoy</em> looking at a Wii game whenever possible, and developers don't always enable us to do so.<br /><br />The latest screenshots of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/european-families-can-ski-and-snowboard-this-february/"><em>We Ski &amp; Snowboard</em></a> are a bit small, but the nice lighting and detailed mountain backdrops are still clearly visible. We might be <em>crazy</em> (for snowboards!), but we think this one looks better than its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/we-like-these-new-we-ski-screens/">predecessor</a>! Again, not like we can make such judgments based on tiny-ish screens. We can safely say it looks nice!<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/05/we-ski-and-snowboard-through-lovely-scenery/">We Ski and Snowboard through lovely scenery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 10:00:00 EST. We've never been overly interested in snowboarding games, but the smooth motion evident in this trailer is <em>quite</em> appealing, as is the combat aspect of the game. The fact that it's not a full-priced game certainly doesn't hurt our impression either.<br /><br />We <em>thought</em> we had found a negative in the Oakley sponsorship, which seemed a bit crass, but then "Goggles can amp up player abilities!" popped up and the partnership instantly jumped from "crass" to "unintentional self-parody", at which point our laughter allowed us to forgive Hudson for taking advantage of a lucrative opportunity.<br /><br />We hope that a) this turns out to be okay when it comes out (maybe this month, as it's due out this month in Japan) and b) we can find people to play with online. It's no secret that Ubisoft has high hopes for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shaun-white-snowboarding"><em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em></a>. The company said it expects the game to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/ubisoft-its-not-hopeless-for-third-party-devs-on-wii/">sell a million copies</a> and, so far, the game is flying off retail shelves faster than scrumptious hotcakes, unloading 259,000 copies in the U.S. across the various platforms in November alone (generating $13.6 million for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft">Ubisoft</a>). We'd also like to point out that 40% of that figure is Wii sales.<br /><br />Ubisoft has liked the reception, apparently, as a sequel to the game is already underway, Shaun White confirmed. "Now that I have the knowledge and I can speak to programmers better and I understand a lot more about what's possible and what's not possible, this will all help with the next game," he said. <br /><br />So, how many of you picked it up? What kind of additions or changes would you like to see in the next game?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/ubisoft-working-on-shaun-white-snowboarding-sequel/">Ubisoft working on Shaun White Snowboarding sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Dec 2008 17:23:00 EST. Hudson's <em>Snowboard Riot</em> has what we think is a much cooler name for its Japanese release: <em>Board Warriors. Famitsu</em> has new screens of the game, one of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/new-hudson-wiiware-games-feature-pool-snowboarding-and-team-to/">three contemporaneous online WiiWare games</a> from Hudson, and it looks -- kinda like <em>Mario Kart</em> on a snowboard! Well, in that it's a multiplayer race with wacky items. If you think items are ridiculous, the game also features an item-free "Stoic Mode" (we think that's the translation) in both online and offline play. <em><strike>Snowboard Riot</strike> BOARD WARRIORS</em> is expected in Japan next month. <br /><br />In other Hudson WiiWare news, the company sent a press release containing a bunch of new screens of <em>Pool Revolution: Cue Sports</em>, which we're just going to call <em>CUE WARRIORS.</em> <br /><br />
<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/10/unrest-among-sports-snowboard-riot-and-pool-revolution/">Unrest among sports: Snowboard Riot and Pool Revolution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 11:50:00 EST. Last week, Hudson announced new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/new-hudson-wiiware-games-feature-pool-snowboarding-and-team-to/">three new WiiWare games</a> for download in Europe. This morning, the company sent out a press release confirming the (eventual) WiiWare release of all of those games in North America. <br /><br /><em>Pool Revolution: Cue Sports</em> is a pool game featuring online play and a puzzle mode in which players attempt to successfully sink prearranged trick shots.<br /><br /><em>Snowboard Riot </em>is a snowboard racing game "utilizing weapons such as homing bullets and invisibility!" It has 1-4 player online play and, continuing with <em>Deca Sports</em>' vaguely silly athletic-wear advertising, allows players to customize their avatars with Oakley sunglasses and outerwear.<br /><br /><em>Pit Crew Panic</em> is a game about all-female racing pit crews fixing what Hudson refers to as "WHATSITS" -- bridges, cakes, toilets, aircraft carriers, and all manner of non-race-car items. <em>Pit Crew Panic</em> also features four-player online functionality, with 2-on-2 and 3-on-1 teams.<br /><br />The company also confirmed a North American release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/hard-posing-people/"><em>Hard Working People</em></a>, the retail Wii game about taking on various part-time jobs, for summer 2009 under the title <em>Help Wanted.</em> It will come out in Europe in March 2009 as <em>Job Island.</em> Head past the break for more screens!<br /><br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/hudson-announces-one-for-wii-two-for-wiiware-in-north-america/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hudson announces one for Wii, three for WiiWare in North America</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/hudson-announces-one-for-wii-two-for-wiiware-in-north-america/">Hudson announces one for Wii, three for WiiWare in North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Nov 2008 11:45:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/05/wii-fanboy-review-alien-crush-returns/"><em>Alien Crush Returns</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/vc-friday-resistance-is-futile/">debuting</a> in Europe today, Hudson has wasted no time announcing three new WiiWare games for the PAL Wii Shop. They range from pretty basic stuff to <em>whaaaaat?</em> They all sound like they could potentially be fun.<br /><br />On the 'basic' end of things: <em>Snooker Vs. Billiards Cue Sports</em>, a pool game with online play for 1-4 players. It allows for either motion- or button-based play, which is a nice touch. It'll be out (probably) at the end of this month.<br /><br />Slightly <em>less</em> normal is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/aussie-classification-reveals-new-hudson-wiiware-title/">Snowboard Riot</a>, </em>due out in January, a snowboarding game with combat -- sort of like <em>Road Rash</em> falling down a mountain. It also supports online play for up to four players, and even allows the Balance Board.<br /><br />And then there's <em>Pit Crew Panic.</em> We'd seen the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/alien-crush-returns-to-australia/">title</a> before, but we couldn't have guessed the content of the game. Sure, it <em>is</em> a game about a racing pit crew fixing cars quickly, but it's <em>also</em> a game about a pit crew fixing <em>cakes</em> quickly. And toilets. And flower beds. How do we know? Because they're throwing a lot of money into advertising the game. $10 million, to be exact, all in the hopes that you'll want to hit the virtual slopes with Shaun and the gang.<br /><br />The campaign started last night, where <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft">Ubisoft</a> purchased all of the ad space on the season premiere of popular television show <em>South Park</em>. That's not it, either, as it's being reported that Shaun White will make appearances on ESPN shows on November 16th to promote the game. In addition to that, Ubisoft is also purchasing air time on select Viacom channels with the purpose of promoting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shaun-white-snowboarding"><em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em></a>.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/ubisoft-really-wants-you-to-buy-shaun-white-snowboarding/">Ubisoft really wants you to buy Shaun White Snowboarding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 15:30:00 EST. For those of you interested in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubisoft">Ubisoft</a>'s upcoming snowboarding game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shaun-white"><span style="font-style: italic;">Shaun White Snowboarding</span></a>, know that retailer Target will be offering exclusive versions of the games for sale, with added content. What kind of content? Well, for one, the game will have Target Mountain included, which we imagine is a new mountain to snowboard down chock full of Target ads. <br /><br />Other than that, the game will include the Target Chalet, which is "the real-life mountainside home where Shaun and his fellow Target athletes hang out with friends and family at the annual Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado" Uh, cool? Finally, the Target edition of the game will feature "exclusive jibs, additional scenes and more characters."<br /><br />There's no word on if this edition will be more expensive, but if it tickles your fancy, head on down to your local Target and pick up a $5 pre-sell card, which is basically your proof of pre-ordering it. <br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/target-to-sell-exclusive-version-of-shaun-white-snowboarding/">Target to sell exclusive version of Shaun White Snowboarding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 15:29:00 EST. Nintendo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-wii-fit-panel-aimed-at-developers/">used</a> the first <em>Family Ski</em> from Namco Bandai (called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/namco-hosting-we-ski-event-at-the-nintendo-world-store/"><em>We Ski</em></a> here) as a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/namco-bandai-reads-minds-family-ski-to-use-balance-board/">showcase</a> for the Balance Board, to show that the board could be used for more than exergaming. One of the next titles to use the <em>Wii Fit</em> peripheral will be ... the sequel to <em>Family Ski!</em> <br /><br />Called <em>Family Ski: World Ski &amp; Snowboard</em>, the new game adds (obviously) one new method of downhill transport, the <em>snowboard</em>. The snowboard can be operated like the snowboard in <em>Wii Fit</em>, using a rotated Balance Board, or with the Wiimote alone. The new game also features a new locale, the Jamboree Snow Resort, with all-new courses.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/guess-the-new-feature-in-family-ski-world-ski-and-snowboard/">Guess the new feature in Family Ski: World Ski &amp; Snowboard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 15:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shaun-white-snowboarding">Shaun White</a>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/ubisoft-hits-the-slopes-with-the-balance-board/">Balance Board-compatible game</a> will be hitting retail shelves on November 14th across Europe, for all of you who've been watching the game and found it to be to your liking. When the game was announced, we merely got a "holiday 2008" window, so it's good to get a concrete date down. And we assume that North America will receive the game around the same time, so look for an update here when we find out more.<br /><br />Who's anxious to hop on the Balance Board and check this out?<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/hit-the-slopes-in-europe-with-shaun-white-on-nov-14/">Hit the slopes in Europe with Shaun White on Nov. 14</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 20:08:00 EST. Ubisoft has announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shaun-white-snowboarding">the <em>Shaun White</em> snowboarding games</a> they have planned for all home consoles will also extend to handheld platforms, as <em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em> is coming to the DS and PSP on November 13th. Aside from the new screens below, we know that the game will feature a single-player campaign with 5 different mountain locations, a stat-based system to upgrade your boarder that will grant them new abilities as they progress and will support <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/nintendo-wi-fi">Nintendo Wi-Fi Connect</a>. Wi-Fi enables four players to participate in races, trick competitions and a king of the hill variant.<br /><br />Check out the new screens below and stay tuned to DS Fanboy for more information as it's made available.<br /><br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/shaun-white-busts-a-backflip-onto-the-ds/">Shaun White busts a backflip onto the DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 14:57:00 EST. <br />Poor <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/gc-2008-shaun-white-and-company-take-a-road-trip/"><em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em></a>. Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/ubisoft-hits-the-slopes-with-the-balance-board/">Balance Board</a> snowboarding title is still most famous for being played by a barefooted Cammie Dunaway during Nintendo's ill-received <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-highlights-from-nintendos-keynote/">E3 press conference</a>, rather than for ... actually looking quite nice. Surely there are others out there who privately think this looks like it might be fun? <br /><br />Personally speaking, this blogger largely enjoyed the <em>SSX</em> games, and absolutely <em>loved</em> <em>1080&deg; Snowboarding</em> on the N64, and different bits of this video reminded us of both. If you also think <span style="font-style: italic;">Shaun White</span> shows promise, but you'd rather keep this <span style="font-style: italic;">extremely shameful</span> secret to yourself and save internet face, give us a wink or some other coded hint in the comments.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/19/its-okay-to-like-shaun-white-snowboarding/">It's okay to like Shaun White Snowboarding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Sep 2008 19:10:00 EST. <br />It was only a few months ago that Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot was promising us all "<a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/11/ubisoft-aims-fo.html">Nintendo-like quality</a>" games. Since then, the company has announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/were-gonna-have-a-rabbids-tv-party-tonight/"><em>Raving Rabbids TV Party</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/babies-party-their-way-onto-wii/"><em>Babies Party</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/ubisoft-hits-the-slopes-with-the-balance-board/"><em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em></a>, and much, much less. It's a line-up that has generated only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/imagine-princez-of-persiaz/">ripples of laughter</a> on the internetz, rather than tremors of fear in Kyoto.<br /><br />The snickering is not limited to NeoGAF. Ubisoft's own forums have come under attack from those who are disillusioned by the company's planned Wii output, so much so that UK Forum Manager "Raide" recently had to ride to Ubi's defense. The gist of his argument <em>seems</em> to be: because the best-selling games on the Wii aren't necessarily the <em>best</em> games, it's actually okay for Ubisoft to release stuff that, well, doesn't have "Nintendo-like quality."<br /><br />"If you look at the most successful Wii games, they are not amazing new AAA games, they are predominantly family-orientated games/alternative games," explained Raide, adding that Ubisoft is pursuing the casual dollar because "parents who are buying a console for their children do not really care about <em>Prince of Persia</em>, <em>Rainbow Six</em> or <em>Far Cry</em> on the box."<br /><br />On one level, Raide's logic is fairly sound; after all, games targeted at the casual sector <em>do </em>sell well (particularly in the UK and Europe), and it's understandable that Ubisoft has shareholders to keep happy. But promising higher quality Wii games and singularly failing to deliver on that pledge? That's just <em>weak</em>. Hit the "Source" link below for Raide's full defense.<br /><br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5012051/ubi-forum-moderator-wii-games-are-not-amazing-new-aaa-games">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/ubisoft-forum-moderator-explains-forthcoming-shovelware/">Ubisoft forum moderator explains forthcoming shovelware</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jun 2008 20:00:00 EST. <br />Slowly but surely, more Balance Board-compatible games are appearing, justifying your purchase of Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/retrospective-nintendos-past-peripherals/">newest peripheral</a> in the process; by our calculations, Ubisoft's <em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em> is the eighth title to make use of the Board (after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/five-quick-wii-fit-factoids/"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/raving-rabbids-balancing-out-their-wacky-life/"><em>Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/namco-hosting-we-ski-event-at-the-nintendo-world-store/"><em>We Ski</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/ngamer-boogie-superstar-is-balance-superstar/"><em>Boogie Superstar</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/don-king-presents-another-game-that-uses-the-balance-board/"><em>Don King Presents: Prizefighter</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/thq-brings-some-pep-to-the-wii/"><em>All Star Cheer Squad</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/10/skate-it-ea-announces-it/"><em>Skate It</em></a>).<br /><br />IGN has the first details and screens on the game, which has the advantage of full Balance Board integration, two- to four-player multiplayer support, and the "full involvement of Shaun White" (apparently he's A Big Deal in the world of snowboarding). It also has the disadvantage (for this blogger, at least) of <em>not being <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/n64/1080snowboarding">1080&deg; Snowboarding</a></em>.<br /><br /><em>Shaun White Snowboarding</em> is due for release during the coming holiday season, and you can catch <strike>some major air</strike> more screens and art after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/ubisoft-hits-the-slopes-with-the-balance-board/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft hits the slopes with the Balance Board</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/ubisoft-hits-the-slopes-with-the-balance-board/">Ubisoft hits the slopes with the Balance Board</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 10:15:00 EST. There is but one single Virtual Console release today, allowing some of you who've been waiting for it over the past few weeks some relief, while the rest of you who were waiting on other titles or perhaps looked forward to more than one game to play are going to be left without satisfaction. You shouldn't be unhappy, though, as this game is one of the best to grace the N64.<br /><br />This week's Virtual Console game is:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>1080&deg; Snowboarding</em> (N64, 1-2 Players, 1000 Wii Points)</li>
</ul>
And, as always, be sure to stop back later for our video wrap-up of this week's Virtual Console release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/vc-monday-madness-1080-snowboarding/">VC Monday Madness: 1080 Snowboarding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jan 2008 10:30:00 EST. Even knowing this, we're forced to ask that question we ask you every Friday: <em>what are you playing?</em> Will you be picking up the new title or are you planning on playing some of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/virtual-console/">Virtual Console</a> games you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/28/poll-how-many-virtual-console-games-have-you-purchased/">might have downloaded</a> this weekend? Or are you still chipping away at a different game?<br /><br />Personally, we plan on picking up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/21/metareview-sonic-and-the-secret-rings/"><em>Sonic and the Secret Rings</em></a> this weekend. We have yet to grab the game as we've been busy blogging lately and look forward to dashing around with the blue hedgehog.<br /><br /><strong>Previous posts: </strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wrup"><em>What were you playing?</em></a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/wrup-backside-air-edition/">WRUP: backside air edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Mar 2007 11:35:00 EST.
