It's in development at TT Fusion, which was previously Embryonic Studios, a smattering of key staff from Gizmondo - who made <em>the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gizmondo/">Gizmondo</a></em> - and Warthog, a UK studio who has done a lot of licensed titles. TT Games snatched up the studio in 2006 before being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/warner-bros-buys-tt-games/">bought</a> by Warner Bros. a year later.<br /><br />This <em>Spy Hunter</em> reboot will be available this fall, and ... well, it's <em>Spy Hunter</em>. You drive a transforming car to take down evil dudes. This latest installment adds an aerial support drone and will let users customize the Interceptor (the official ride of spies everywhere) through tech and weapon upgrades. The car is also red now, which seems like the worst color for a spy car but that's just our two cents.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spy-hunter-vita-3ds/">Spy Hunter (Vita/3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spy-hunter-vita-3ds/#5054644"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/spyhunter01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/spy-hunter-vita-3ds/#5054645"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/spyhunter02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/spy-hunter-races-to-3ds-and-ps-vita-this-fall/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Spy Hunter races to 3DS and PS Vita this fall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/spy-hunter-races-to-3ds-and-ps-vita-this-fall/">Spy Hunter races to 3DS and PS Vita this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 17:00:00 EST. Striking while the iron is ... absolutely frozen, Warner Bros. may be looking to restart the <em>Spy Hunter</em> movie project, following its <a href="http:// http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/warner-bros-highlights-mortal-kombat-spy-hunter-ips-in-midway/">acquisition</a> of the IP from Midway. According to <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118016773.html?categoryid=1079&amp;cs=1">Variety</a>, WB has hired screenwriter Chad St. John, who is also writing an adaptation of DC Comics' Sgt. Rock, to write the script. <br />
<br />
The last <em>Spy Hunter</em> movie, intended to star The Rock, fizzled out when director Paul W.S. Anderson <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/21/actor-strike-threatens-castlevania-movie-anderson-drops-spy-hun/">removed himself</a> from the project after discovering that the script -- adapted from a game about a car that shoots at other cars -- was of poor quality. Had it actually been made, it would have been an appropriate tie-in with the 2006 game <em><a href="http://www.thespyhunter.com/">Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run</a></em>, also starring The Rock. No stars have been named for <em>this</em> version of the movie yet.<br />

After snatching up Midway and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/17/midway-execs-get-the-boot-entire-chicago-dev-team-acquired-by-w/">dumping some of its execs</a>, Warner Bros. looks like it's finally starting to get somewhere with its acquisition. There's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/01/warner-bros-promotes-exec-following-midway-acquisition/">a new guy</a> heading up what is now <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/mortal-kombat-team-sheds-midway-skin-for-wb-games-chicago/">WB Games Chicago</a> and, according to <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/32525/Warner-Bros-cites-Mortal-Kombat-SpyHunter-OnLive">Develop</a>, Warner Bros. has confirmed that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mortal-kombat">Mortal Kombat</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spy-hunter"><em>Spy Hunter</em></a> are now part of its forthcoming plans.<br /><br />Acquiring these Midway properties gives Warner Bros. opportunities not only for new games (or re-releases of old ones), but also projects "adapted for film or TV, leveraged for consumer products, or licensed to third parties." While we wouldn't mind seeing someone take a stab at a new <em>Mortal Kombat</em> game, we desperately hope Warner Bros. doesn't go for <em>a new movie</em>. The world does not deserve any more of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIt0VY7Yg2w">this</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/warner-bros-highlights-mortal-kombat-spy-hunter-ips-in-midway/">Warner Bros. highlights Mortal Kombat, Spy Hunter IPs in Midway acquisition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 08:30:00 EST. Various outlets reported this morning that, based on the <a href="http://twitter.com/hecterrific">Twitter</a> <a href="http://twitter.com/SLKBoy">accounts</a> of a few Midway employees, the company name will be dissolved in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/the-rest-of-midway-is-up-for-auction/">the acquisition of Midway</a> by Warner Bros. Midway's Geoff Mogilner told us this morning that those reports are simply unfounded. "The name and the mark are owned by Warner Bros. and it is up to them to figure out the branding strategy," Mogilner said to Joystiq. In the midst of buying and selling various Midway properties, basic things like the company name can easily be swept under the rug and forgotten about while people talk about intellectual properties and trademarks.<br /><br />According to Mogilner, when WB officially acquired Midway in an auction last month, it not only bought various IP (<em>Mortal Kombat</em>, <em>Spy Hunter</em>, etc.) but also the branding. "They [WB] bought the assets and the trademark and all the copyrights and the logo and all that ... to say the name is dead, it's silly but, ya know, it's premature -- the company Midway Games, Inc. still exists," Mogilner told us. He is, of course, speaking about the remaining studios still owned by Midway -- Midway Newcastle and San Diego among them -- who he says are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/midway-studios-not-acquired-by-wb-to-shut-down-within-60-days/">still up for auction</a>, "At this point, as long as they're open, we can still get bids. We're actively trying to figure out that situation. We were required (and it was prudent) to give notice to the people at those studios." We've contacted Warner Bros. for comment on whether or not it will continue using the Midway name on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/19/ed-boon-next-mortal-kombat-to-be-rated-m/">future ex-Midway products</a> and have yet to hear back as of publishing.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Warner Bros. has responded to our request for comment with, well, no comment. We asked the company if it will be using the Midway name going forward on ex-Midway products, to which WB officially responded, "We [WB] are not yet commenting on Midway." That's all (for now), folks!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/07/13/midway-no-more/">Big Download</a>]<br />

We're fairly certain that we all now know the many weaknesses of vampires: stakes, crosses, garlic, and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1099212/">obsessive, lonely teenage girls</a>. However, we're just now starting to figure out the secret to slaying vampire-centric game-to-movie adaptations (namely, Paul W.S. Anderson's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/castlevania-movie-drops-whip-for-sword/">whipless cinematic stab</a> at <em>Castlevania)</em>; a force more powerful than holy symbols or tiny, smelly onions -- the unrelenting stoppage of work by entertainment labor unions.<br /><br />Last December, when the writer's strike had cast a shadow of boredom over the land, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/07/strike-holds-up-castlevania-movie/">the film was indefinitely postponed</a>. Production started back up when said strike ended -- but with the entertainment industry currently staring down the barrel of a Screen Actors Guild strike, <a href="http://movies.ign.com/articles/939/939622p1.html">work on the <em>Castlevania</em> film has been "derailed"</a>. According to an IGN interview with Anderson, future plans for the film won't be decided until the SAG strike has been resolved.<br /><br />Also in said interview, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/rumor-spy-hunter-movie-hits-oil-slick-crashes-burns/">Anderson confirms that he's taken himself off</a> of the Rock-infused <em>Spy Hunter</em> film, due to the script being just as terrible as you'd expect it to be. Unlike <em>Castlevania</em>, which Anderson claims to be quite smitten with and wishes to finish, this is probably the last we're going to hear of <em>Spy Hunter</em>'s potentially Oscar-worthy silver screen adaptation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/21/actor-strike-threatens-castlevania-movie-anderson-drops-spy-hun/">Actor strike threatens Castlevania movie, Anderson drops Spy Hunter movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Dec 2008 18:00:00 EST. Looks like director Paul Anderson (W.S., not Thomas) is <a href="http://latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-spy-hunter-takes-a-backseat-5233">being taken off the project</a>, which will spin it out into limbo.<br /><br />You can also read Latino Review's review of the script <a href="http://latinoreview.com/script-reviews/?id=21">right here</a>. They seemed to like it, saying it was better than <em>The Fast and the Furious 3</em> ... which ain't saying much. In fact, the best thing <em>Spy Hunter</em> has spawned as far as filmed entertainment goes is the Pontiac commercial above. If any of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/08/preview-of-spy-hunter-nowhere-to-run/">game sequels</a> had looked like that, we might still be playing them.<br /><br />Now, we ask you... is this such a bad thing? Sure it had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/10/14/the-peoples-informant-spy-hunter-3-info/">Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson</a> attached to it, and John Woo was supposed to direct it at one point. However, it's had a slew of different writers and now with two director replacements, do we really need a <em>Spy Hunter</em> movie? We hope no one hits "Continue" on the <em>Spy Hunter</em> movie, and that it just dies a merciful death. What say you?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/rumor-spy-hunter-movie-hits-oil-slick-crashes-burns/">Rumor: Spy Hunter movie hits oil slick, crashes, burns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 23:00:00 EST. <br />Thanks to its largely flat surface, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nes">NES</a> doubles up as an ideal canvas for those wishing to spruce up their consoles with a custom paint job. Of course, you also need <em>artistic ability</em>, which is where we fail hideously, and eBay user hellokitty11111111111 (yes) excels.<br /><br />Well, "excels" most of the time, anyway. The quality of these mods does vary a <em>little </em>-- we're not big fans of the <em>Kid Icarus</em> design -- but we do absolutely <em>love</em> the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/mother-3-translation-seven-months-away/"><em>Earthbound</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super+mario+bros/"><em>Super Mario Bros. 3</em></a>, and (highly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/vc-monday-madness-river-city-ransom-and-some-other-game/">topical</a>) <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Painted-Nintendo-Game-System-River-City-Ransom_W0QQitemZ270118394946QQihZ017QQcategoryZ62054QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262"><em>River City Ransom</em></a> examples. Are they worth (up to) $149.99, though? At a stretch, we'd be tempted. OK, ignore for 30 seconds that this is a Pontiac commercial and just bask in the awesomeness of it. The music, the look, the feel ... seriously, if we could focus on what car the company is selling for even a split second we might consider buying it. <br /><br />But don't be fooled folks, there is some brilliant marketing at work here. Even <a href="http://www.pontiac.com/g8iscar/">the car's website</a> is designed with our demographic in mind; featuring a mosaic of the car made up of images like Transformers and <em>Halo</em> (clearly being promoted at the bottom of the page).
