Amazing Spider-Man DLC lets you play as Stan Lee, Lizard, Rhino, and more today

The Amazing Spider-Man is getting a whole bunch of DLC today, including a few different packs that will have you playing as people other than the titular wall-crawler. The Lizard Rampage pack will open up a level where you play as the Lizard, along with a new Spidey suit to wear. The Oscorp Search & Destroy Pack brings two minigames, with you controlling either a giant snake or a hunter robot. And the Rhino Challenge Pack will put you behind the wheel of the Rhino, allowing you to destroy everything in a timed competition.

And finally, the long-awaited Stan Lee Adventure Pack will let you play the legend himself, flying around the virtual streets of New York and spouting one-liners as everyone's favorite former chairman of Marvel Comics. Each of these packs will run you $3-$4, but you can get all four for a discounted price of $10. As Stan himself would say (and we're paraphrasing here), that's enough words spoken.

We already knew that Stan Lee's cameo fixation would be seen in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man game. At the time, we could only imagine what a playable elderly gentleman, filling in for Peter Parker, might look like. Today we can see it in horrifying detail.

Play as Stan Lee, Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man pre-order perks

These two pre-order bonuses for The Amazing Spider-Man couldn't be more different: One has players rampage through Manhattan as Rhino, the hulking, horned villain, and the other has players run around as an old man as he tries to collect some papers he's misplaced, yapping non-stop about "kids these days" and Liza Minelli's golden era.

GameStop's pre-order bonus is The Rhino Challenge, a timed destruction event where players suit up as Rhino and break as much stuff as possible. Amazon's bonus is "Play as Stan Lee for the First Time Ever," and has players travel through Manhattan as the Marvel mastermind himself. He uses special abilities borrowed from Spider-Man to collect pages from his latest script, punctuated by "witty banter." A "special surprise" is revealed at the end of the Stan Lee mission, tied into Spider-Man's 50th anniversary this year.

Stan Lee to be playable in The Amazing Spider-Man

Good morning, true believers! Are you ready for The Amazing Spider-Man to get weird? During an interview with Addict of Fiction at the London Super Comic Convention, Spidey co-creator Stan Lee revealed that he will be a playable character in Beenox's upcoming Amazing Spider-Man game.

This news raises so many questions, chief among them what? Will he be playable throughout, or just in one small sequence? Will he have spider-powers? Can Beenox's art team do justice to his moustache? We are begging Activision for more information on this wacky news.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions cast loaded with Spidey veterans

Activision has announced that Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will play host to a cavalcade of Spidey-related voice talent when it's released on September 7. The Spider-Men of each universe will be voiced by actors who have played the web-slinger in the past. Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Keaton, Christopher Daniel Barnes and Dan Gilvezan will voice the Amazing, Ultimate, Noir and 2099 variants, respectively.

Harris originally voiced the wall-crawler in Spider-Man: The New Animated Series; Keaton had the role in The Spectacular Spider-Man; Barnes played the part in the 1994 Spider-Man animated series; and, finally, Gilvezan voiced ol' web-head in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends way back in the early '80s.

If that's still not enough for the true believers out there, Stan Lee himself will serve as the game's narrator. Meanwhile, Jim Dooley, composer for several games and films (The Da Vinci Code, inFamous), will provide the soundtrack. Now, if only someone at Beenox could find a way to squeeze in Bruce Campbell ...

Stan Lee: Game development is a 'miracle'

For all our too-cool-for-the-room cynicism about video games, it's refreshing to hear the beautiful innocence of a child's perspective on them. In the absence of a child's perspective, however, we're willing to accept the perspective of an old, old man, which is basically the same thing. Speaking with The Guardian, Stan Lee admitted that we was fundamentally clueless about the mechanics of game making, adding "It's like a miracle."

Let's try something, just for today. Let's try to ape Stan Lee's attitude. Let's try to remember that from the games destined to be classics down to the games made by Destineer, they're all miracles; especially when you consider that 50 years ago, the industry didn't even exist. We're living in the future, friends, and if someone as rich and old as Stan Lee can realize it, we should be able to as well.

Stan Lee makes first video game appearance in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 [update]

Known for making appearances in a variety of movie adaptations of his comics over the years, Stan Lee will be making his first ever video game appearance in upcoming action/RPG Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. According to Shacknews, he'll be playing a character "significant to the game's storyline," though more details are unfortunately unavailable.

Lee is apparently quite excited to have his likeness finally put into a video game, saying, "I am thrilled to be making my first onscreen video game cameo." What we're excited about though is the possible release date of MUA2, revealed by multiple online retailers to be September 15. We've asked Activision for comment on the release date and will update this post as we hear more.

Update: Activision has confirmed to us that the September 15 release date for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is correct.
