<br />
<em>Star Wars Galaxies</em> came to a close last night. There can be only one <em>Star Wars </em>MMO on the block, and that's now <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>. That doesn't mean <em>Galaxies</em> didn't go out in style -- we tracked down a pair of end-game videos on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.<br />
<br />
Finally, there's also <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/16/final-swg-producers-letter-thanks-community/">a sappy letter</a> from <em>Star Wars Galaxies</em>' last remaining producer. It's been a crazy eight years, hasn't it? Here's to hoping <em>The Old Republic</em> has as long a run.<br />

Now, Blakely is leading Zynga's Austin-based offices, acting as general manager for the studio in a move spotted this past week. Blakely's <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=104932&amp;authType=NAME_SEARCH&amp;authToken=GST2&amp;locale=en_US&amp;srchid=d9dd56c5-7770-4b5d-ac03-3af19cf2fcd2-0&amp;srchindex=1&amp;srchtotal=30&amp;pvs=ps&amp;pohelp=&amp;goback=%2Efps_*1_John_Blakely_*1_*1_*1_*1_*51_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_1_R_true_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2">LinkedIn profile</a> indicates he's been with Zynga Austin since some point in April of this year.<br />
<br />
SOE confirmed Blakely's departure in a statement, thanking him for "the passion and leadership he brought to work every day," and noting that the company "fully supports him in his future endeavors." Zynga could not be reached for comment as of publishing, though it stands to reason that the social media giant isn't exactly unhappy with the acquisition. Executive director of development, Lorin Jameson, will fill Blakely's spot at SOE.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/15/sony-online-entertainment-senior-producer-becomes-zynga-austin-g/">Sony Online Entertainment senior producer becomes Zynga Austin GM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 May 2011 19:05:00 EST. Uh-oh. While Sony Online Entertainment had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/sony-online-entertainment-says-its-customer-data-is-safe/">assured</a> its customers last week that, "to the best of our knowledge, no customer personal information got out to any unauthorized person or persons" during last month's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn-outage-2011">breach</a> into Sony's systems, the MMO division today suspended its games and services, including its websites and <a href="http://blog.games.com/2011/05/02/psn-sony-shuts-down-soe-facebook-games/">Facebook titles</a>.<br />
<br />
"We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily," the group said in a <a href="http://maintenance.station.sony.com/">brief statement</a> this morning. "In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately."<br />
<br />
SOE added that it would provide an update later today. In the meantime, the notification page suggests you download and play some (offline) casual games to distract you from that horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> SOE has announced that it has lost 12,700 customer credit card numbers as the result of an attack, and roughly 24.6 million accounts may have been breached. Check out our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/sony-hit-with-second-attack-loses-12-700-credit-card-nu/">follow-up post</a> for more information.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/soe-suspends-services-after-discovering-an-issue/">SOE suspends services after discovering 'an issue'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 May 2011 10:30:00 EST. Direct2Drive's running a pretty sweet deal for anyone looking to reach out and touch other members of the gaming community (in a completely non-weird way, we mean) -- until Monday morning, the site's <a href="http://www.direct2drive.com/buy-mmo-pc-games-download">entire catalog of MMOs</a> is discounted 20 percent. That includes massively multiplayer gems like <em>World of Warcraft</em>, <em>Star Wars Galaxies</em>, <em>Lego Universe</em>, <em>Guild Wars</em> and more; just input the coupon code "JOKER" while checking out, and watch the prices fall like so, so many enemy NPCs.<br />
<br />
If you'd rather play a game which rivals the length of an MMO, but lacks all the other human contact, the retailer is also knocking $20 off the price of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fallout-new-vegas"><em>Fallout: New Vegas</em></a> from this Saturday until Monday morning. You don't need a coupon code for that one, though if there were one, we imagine it'd be something like "NUKA COLA" or "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToKIkw3LIoQ">CREEPY HOVERING NO-BONES MAN</a>."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/07/all-mmos-20-percent-off-at-direct2drive-fallout-new-vegas-20/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>All MMOs 20 percent off at Direct2Drive, Fallout: New Vegas $20 off this weekend</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/07/all-mmos-20-percent-off-at-direct2drive-fallout-new-vegas-20/">All MMOs 20 percent off at Direct2Drive, Fallout: New Vegas $20 off this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Jan 2011 03:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://mmo.joystiq.com">MMO</a> genre has come a long way in a very short time, but it's still important to look back at the events which brought us to where we are today. Michael Zenke over at Massively responds to <a href="http://www.mmocrunch.com/2007/12/04/top-5-most-memorable-events-in-mmorpg-history/">MMOCrunch's list</a> of MMO's most memorable event by citing what he feels to be its <a href="http://www.massively.com/2007/12/06/the-most-influential-mmog-moments/">most influential</a>, from the high points (Toyota's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/07/todays-resold-meme-video-wow-toyota-commercial/"><em>World of Warcraft</em> commercial</a>), to the lowest (the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/24/star-wars-galaxies-new-game-enhancements-cause-player-backlash/">spontaneous and unannounced addition</a> of New Game Enhancements to <em>Star Wars Galaxies</em>).<br /><br />Were there any obvious milestones in MMO history overlooked in these articles?
