We believe they deserve a wider audience with the Joystiq Indie Pitch: This week, Howard Tsao, founder of Muse Games, talks semi-MMO, steampunk, co-op airship battles with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/guns-of-icarus-online"><em>Guns of Icarus Online</em></a>.</font></small></p><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-guns-of-icarus-online/"><img alt="The Joystiq Indie Pitch Guns of Icarus Online" data-src-height="321" data-src-width="530" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/10-1360197365.jpg" /></a></div><strong>What's your game called and what's it about?</strong><br /><br />Our game is called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/guns-of-icarus-online"><em>Guns of Icarus Online</em></a>. It's a multiplayer airship-to-airship combat game where you battle it out in the skies on customizable ships with your friends and against other players, all set in a steampunk- and dieselpunk-inspired post-apocalyptic wasteland. Imagine if World War I never really ended; that's where we're at.<br /><br /><strong><span>How does <em>Guns of Icarus Online</em> continue the narrative and gameplay of <em>Guns of Icarus</em>?</span></strong><br /><br />In the original game <em>Guns of Icarus</em>, you take on the role of Gabriel, who is basically an early pioneer of airship flight centuries after the Great War has laid waste to civilization. He builds his own airship out of scavenged parts and goes traveling across this hardscrabble post-apocalyptic landscape, visiting scattered settlements and fighting off sky pirates the whole way. Even though he doesn't survive the voyage, his doomed flight is an inspiration to the people he encounters, a brush of contact with the wider world and a sign of hope that things can get better.<br /><br /><em>Guns of Icarus Online</em> takes place almost 100 years later, when Gabriel has become a legendary, almost mythic figure. With the rapid development of airship flight in the intervening years, the once-isolated towns have come into much closer contact, bringing both trade and warfare. It's a time of unprecedented prosperity, but also renewed conflict. In<em> Guns of Icarus Online</em> you are one of this new class of aeronauts, young men and women who have left their hometowns behind and signed up to serve aboard one of these airships in search of glory and adventure, seeking your fortune in the skies.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guns-of-icarus-online-0/">Guns of Icarus Online</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guns-of-icarus-online-0/#5622388"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guns-of-icarus-online-0/#5622389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guns-of-icarus-online-0/#5622390"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guns-of-icarus-online-0/#5622391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guns-of-icarus-online-0/#5622392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-guns-of-icarus-online/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Guns of Icarus Online</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-guns-of-icarus-online/">The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Guns of Icarus Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2013 21:15:00 EST. Alongside the custom paint job, all of the face buttons and analog sticks have been ripped out in favor of old typewriter keys.<br /><br />The auction is still going for just over two days, so best act quickly if you're in the US or Canada. Eidos Montreal devs reveal how they put the punk in the steam with a new diary explaining the intricacies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>'s audio. <em>Human Revolution</em> balances the cyber symphonies of <em>Deus Ex</em> with a more mechanical Renaissance vibe -- think Vivaldi meets <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Savery">Thomas Savery</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/deus-ex-human-revolution-dev-diary-describes-the-sound-of-cyber/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution dev diary describes the sound of cyberspace</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/deus-ex-human-revolution-dev-diary-describes-the-sound-of-cyber/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution dev diary describes the sound of cyberspace</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Aug 2011 00:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small> </small><em><small>Click to enlarge, punk </small> </em></div>
Fans of steampunk fantasy don't have many choices when it comes to video games which adhere to their beloved genre. Right now, it basically boils down to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/arcanum"><em>Arcanum</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/penny-arcade-adventures"><em>Penny Arcade Adventures</em></a> and ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/banjo-kazooie-nuts-and-bolts"><em>Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts &amp; Bolts</em></a>? Maybe? However, German developer Spellbound Entertainment <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/press-releases/57925/Ravensdale">recently announced a new entry</a> into the category: <em>Ravensdale</em>, a "fast paced fantasy action game in a very unique 'steam powered' setting featuring cool and outrageously over-powered gadgetry."<br />
<br />
The game, which is expected to launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, is targeted for a 2012 launch. For now, all we've got to sate our curiosity are two pieces of concept art, posted in the gallery below. Make sure you take your time while analyzing them -- you've got about <em>two years</em> to kill.<br />

Despite what you may assume, we're not the sort of people who'd buy ourselves a steampunk Game Boy like the Thretris-created model you see above (see it in action after the break). We are, however, the sort of people who'd use our popular internet website to politely request that our readers buy said <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=200453111051&amp;ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_6835wt_1167">Game Boy from eBay</a> and send it to us for a holiday of their choice. It probably seems a little ethically dicey to the layman, but ethics are <em>really</em> complicated (they have whole college courses about them!) so you shouldn't feel too bad about yourself for not understanding. <br />
<br />
Hey, speaking of things you should or shouldn't do, did you bid on that steampunk Game Boy yet?<br />

The second game in 2009 to have an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/velvet-assassin">individual and somewhat unique premise</a> with a less than flattering visual accompaniment (not to mention bland, seen-it-before looking gameplay). But hey, let's give it a fair shake -- we haven't laid our grubby, jaded mitts on the game yet, so it'd be unfair to prejudge.<br /><br />What we can glean from the trailer is this: the totally sweet, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/peace-be-damned-in-latest-damnation-trailer/">Raiden-esque sword action</a> seen in previously released clips seems to have all but left in the multiplayer-combat focused video above. In it's place? "Verticality." At least we can still flip around like most ... cowboys. This latest trailer features lead designer Jacob Minkoff detailing Prescott Standard Industries, the manufacturer of just about every piece of technology there is in the world of <em>Damnation</em> and the evil force looking to conquer the United States. <br /><br />As interesting as steampunk itself is, we have to say that evil dictators bent on domination just aren't cool. Not at all, and, frankly, we think someone could use a hug.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/peace-be-damned-in-latest-damnation-trailer/">Peace be damned in latest Damnation trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 05:00:00 EST. <div align="left"> It looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/myst/"><em>Myst</em></a> isn't the only oldschool PC adventure game to be ported to the DS. According to Mindscape, <em>Syberia</em> is on its way, too. Since it's only a port, it won't contain any new content. Yet, we're glad to know that the game will feature touch-screen functionality, since that's always a plus in adventure titles. You can also expect an improved interface and menu system, to make inventories easier to navigate.<br /></div>
<br />In <em>Syberia</em>, you take control of businesswomen Kate Walker, who's looking for the long-lost heir of a toy-making family. One of <em>Syberia's</em> best aspects, though, is its surreal, steampunk-esque setting, which we hope translates well onto the DS.<br /><br />The game is scheduled to release in Europe this October, but there's no word yet of a North American localization.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendic.com/news/2223">Nintendic</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/syberia-takes-an-adventure-on-the-ds/">Syberia takes an adventure on the DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 21:00:00 EST. Today, the question we must ask is clear: which would you prefer? It comes down to a question of style: are you all up into bling? Blocks?
