As we all know, when you add a "z" in the place of an "s" to any word, that word becomes extreme. Such is the case with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz, though the latest trailer paints the game as anything but extreme. And that's good, because we were getting pretty worried about buying safety gear.

This is a tad later than the initial "early 2012" launch window we received in September, but with a title as adorable as this one our anger seems to just melt away.

Banana Splitz will feature more than 100 levels, eight minigames and a custom level builder that turns photos of real images into Monkey Ball-able objects.

Sega has officially begun promoting the game in Japan, announcing a June 14 release date in that region, and a Japanese title: Super Monkey Ball Tokumori Asobita! (It's Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz over here).

The Vita game features a level editor that allows players to generate new Monkey Ball levels from photos. There's also a weird two-player co-op mode that tethers two Monkey Balls together with a line. Other than that, it's the Monkey Ball you know and loved until you got so frustrated you swore you'd never play again.

As sure as the sun will rise and set, there's gonna be a Super Monkey Ball game for the PlayStation Vita in early 2012. Sega accidentally exposed as much this past weekend, but now the publisher has confirmed the game, which will make full use of Vita's "dual analog sticks and front/back-touch controls."

The Vita version will add new worlds, game types and updated graphics. It will also support up to four folks playing with their monkey balls across WiFi. Sega is also adding a revamped version of "Monkey Target" mode.

Some version of Super Monkey Ball is currently available on ... wait, let's make this easier: Super Monkey Ball is currently not available for your Commodore 64.
