After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/talisman-quietly-canceled/">quietly canceling</a> the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XBLA/">XBLA</a> version of <em>Talisman</em> way back in August, GiantRealm has posted an article detailing <a href="http://giantrealm.gameriot.com/gaming/talisman-what-went-wrong">what went wrong</a> with the game's development. Adam Boyes, Director of Production at Capcom Entertainment, explains that the problem arose late in development, when the team realized some early decisions weren't panning out. Boyes said the team realized that many gamers wouldn't be wiling to sit down for a 3-5 hour online game and, because the game is turn based, players would literally be doing nothing 80% of the time in a 6 player game. Of course, if you're stuck in a game where no one is using a headset, things get even worse.<br /><br />Unfortunately, by the time these problems were recognized, the team didn't have enough time or money to fix them. We all know the rest. Still, Boyes says that a <em>Talisman</em> game "will be made" and that Capcom will be more than willing to share its lessons with the creators.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/05/capcom-finally-ready-to-talk-talisman-cancellation/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/capcom-on-talisman-cancellation/">Capcom on Talisman cancellation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Nov 2008 13:45:00 EST. When we last heard about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-rocketmen-and-talisman-to-xbla-and-psn/">XBLA, PSN and PC versions</a> of the board game <em>Talisman</em>, they were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/talisman-canceled-two-months-ago/">already dead</a> in the digital waters. <a href="http://giantrealm.gameriot.com/gaming/talisman-what-went-wrong">GiantRealm</a> spoke with Capcom's Production Director, Adam Boyes, about what went wrong with the project. No juicy legal shenanigans, no bitter disputes between the publisher and license owner Games Workshop -- the demise came as a result of an epiphany that gamers weren't likely to set aside more than an hour for a game, especially when one session of off-the-grid <em>Talisman</em> could last up to five hours. <br /><br />Boyes also cited the challenges of recreating the "social aspect," as well as the dilemma of lengthy turns. "As we continued to refine the concept of the game," he said, "we realized that the average gamer needed at least 60 seconds per turn to roll their dice, choose their direction, and then choose how to interact with the space they landed on. That meant that in a six player game, you would spend 80 percent of the time not doing anything." <br /><br />"All of the issues I've mentioned do have solutions. The problem was we had already been developing the game for six months, and with a limited budget you have to make hard decisions," he said. While Boyes is hopeful <em>Talisman</em> will one day get digitized, it isn't going to be done by Capcom. The interview is a great read for those interested in the behind-the-scenes actions of the industry.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/kramez/blog/2008/11/04/mea_culpa_giant_realm_covers_the_fate_of_talisman">Capcom Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/05/capcom-finally-ready-to-talk-talisman-cancellation/">Capcom finally ready to talk Talisman cancellation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Nov 2008 23:30:00 EST. While we must admit we've never played the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/talisman"><em>Talisman</em></a> board game, we are sad to announce that Capcom has canceled the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Xbox-Live-Arcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a> version of the game. Strange as it may seem, the cancellation was announced not in any official capacity, but in a forum post nearly two months ago. Capcom's Christian Svensson broke the news to an inquitive forum goer, stating that there was a "misfire" at the beginning of development and Capcom had decided not to switch developers because "the costs of moving forward outweighted the potential revenue."<br /><br />Any hope of the project being resurrected rests with Games Workshop, which once again owns the rights to <em>Talisman.</em><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/talisman-canceled-two-months-ago/">Joystiq</a>. Two months ago Capcom's Christian Svensson announced that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-rocketmen-and-talisman-to-xbla-and-psn/">XBLA, PSN and PC versions</a> of <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/4818413/Talisman"><em>Talisman</em> had been canceled</a>. Well, why are we bringing this up now? Curiously, it took about <a href="http://www.gamestooge.com/2008/10/12/talisman-cancelled/">two months for anyone to notice</a>, so take from that what you will.<br /><br />The last time <em>Talisman</em> really popped up on radar was last year when it was stated the game would <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/capcom-dates-some-downloadables-games-in-development/">be out by April of 2008</a>. Svensson notes on the Capcom site that it was no longer cost effective to continue with the project after a "misfire" at the start and the rights have reverted back to Games Workshop.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamestooge.com/2008/10/12/talisman-cancelled/">GameStooge</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/talisman-canceled-two-months-ago/">Talisman canceled ... two months ago</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Oct 2008 17:00:00 EST. The personalized console is outfitted in what looks like <a href="http://www.talismoon.com/cgi-bin/multipage/engine.pl?function=viewid&amp;id=RKS00070&amp;cat=WII-TUNING">Talismoon's Green Tanto</a> replacement shell, wearing the West Virginia college's logo and colors.<br /><br />We can't knock their charitable efforts, as they're donating all proceeds from the raffle to <a href="http://www.unitedway.org/">United Way</a>, but the system likely looked a lot nicer before it was tampered with. Hopefully, that logo is just an easily-peeled-off <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/decal">sticker</a>. Either way, whomever wins the Wii will be sore to hear that its warranty was voided with this customization.<br /><br />Local station WSAZ covered the giveaway, and the forced banter between the two news anchors really shouldn't be missed! Capcom announced ballpark dates and prices to go with some of the downloadable titles they plan to offer on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC in the next half-year. The details were given in London, so to ere on the side of caution, we're going to call these Euro details until further notice -- we doubt that's the truth, but a little caution never hurts. The games are:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-rocketmen-and-talisman-to-xbla-and-psn/"><em>Rocketmen: Axis of Evil</em></a> -- Holiday '07 (XBLA 800 MS Points ($10), PSN $10)</li>
    <li><em>Commando 3</em> -- December '07 (XBLA 800 MS Points ($10), PSN $10)</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-rocketmen-and-talisman-to-xbla-and-psn/"><em>Talisman</em></a> -- April '08</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ssfiithd/"><em>Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</em></a> -- Q1 '08, but actually "<a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3163805">when it's ready</a>."</li>
</ul>
Capcom also said that (seriously these long titles need to stop) <em>Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</em> on PS3 will be available on PSN "soon" and "global headset support" will launch with the European version. Now if we could just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/first-super-street-fighter-ii-hd-remix-video-is-underwhelming/">get a better video</a> of <em>SSFIITHDR</em> we might understand what's taking so long for the prettified update.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/capcom-dates-some-downloadables-games-in-development/">Capcom dates some downloadable games in development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Oct 2007 13:15:00 EST. Former Human Head CEO and chairman Timothy Gerritsen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/03/human-head-ceo-quit-in-nov-talks-now/">left the house that built <em>Prey</em></a> in November of last year to graze in greener, more independent pastures. Today his new game development studio Big Rooster has been formally announced, plunking Gerritsen in the growing list of <a href="http://pc.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/mystery-rts-studio-revealed-as-smoking-gun-interactive/">game development folk striking out on their own</a>. <br /><br />Big Rooster will focus on developing original titles with an emphasis on "combining depth of design with top quality visual and audio game content". In both games the characters and backgrounds will be redrawn by artists from Udon Comics, who also did all the art for the <em>Street Fighter</em> comic books. Capcom also announced that both <em>Rocketmen: Axis of Evil</em> and <em>Talisman </em>will release to the Arcade later this year<em>.</em> So, anyone excited and loving the <em>Street Fighter</em> happiness coming to the XBLA?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://dpcough.wordpress.com/2007/04/14/capcom-with-four/">Live Gamer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/14/capcoms-four-new-xbla-titles/">Capcom's four new XBLA titles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Apr 2007 11:30:00 EST. The entire game is being redrawn, from the character select, all the way through to backgrounds and endings, most likely to take advantage of your shiny HDTV.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-rocketmen-and-talisman-to-xbla-and-psn/"><em>Rocketmen: Axis of Evil</em></a> is a intensely action-oriented approach on the <a href="http://www.wizkidsgames.com/rocketmen/">constructible strategy game</a> of the same name. Like <em>Cash Guns Chaos</em>, the game will have players blasting enemies in a colorful, cel-shaded world. For images of the game, check out the gallery at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rocketmen-axis-of-evil/">Joystiq</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-rocketmen-and-talisman-to-xbla-and-psn/"><em>Talisman</em></a> is based off yet another <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talisman_(board_game)">strategy game</a>, but unlike <em>Rocketmen</em>, it'll stay true to its original gameplay. This downloadable title will be a digital recreation of the game, and will be playable offline and on.<br /><br />Finally, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/super-puzzle-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix-for-xbla-unveiled/"><em>Puzzle Fighter II HD</em></a> will also be making an appearance on the Network. This lovable puzzle game will also get a glorious high-definition makeover. See a video of the game, after the cut.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-super-street-fighter-ii-rocketmen-and-talisman-to/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom brings Super Street Fighter II and more to PSN</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/capcom-brings-super-street-fighter-ii-rocketmen-and-talisman-to/">Capcom brings Super Street Fighter II and more to PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 21:30:00 EST. <div align="left"><span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Capcom_brings_Rocketmen_and_Talisman_to_XBLA_and_PSN'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span>Though it seemed like Capcom was giving Xbox Live Arcade all the love at their annual Gamers Day event, they did have two surprises up their sleeves for fans of the PlayStation Network. <em>Rocketmen: Axis of Evil</em> and and <em>Talisman</em> both represent very opposite ends of the gaming spectrum and while we got to go hands-on with the former, the latter was not presently available. <br /><br />Based off the <a href="http://www.wizkidsgames.com/rocketmen/">constructible strategy game</a> of the same name, <em>Rocketmen</em> ditches the thinking and settles for some good ol' eight-way shooting. Like a friendly version of the classic <em>Total Carnage</em>, <em>Rocketmen</em> is deeper than your average <em>Robotron</em>-clone by offering up customizable characters, four player co-operative play and online modes to match. While what we saw was fairly early, the cel-shaded environments are looking fairly slick and the action can get nuts, as you can see in the screenshots below. Capcom currently has it penciled for a Fall release for both XBLA and PSN, though don't hold your breath for cross-connectivity.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talisman_(board_game)">Talisman</a></em> is based off a different strategy game, only in this case it'll be sticking to its Games Workshop roots. Revolving around a 3-D representation of the board, <em>Talisman</em> is a translation of the tabletop game that sports one to four players on or offline, 25 characters from the franchise and expansion through downloadable content in the future. It will be seeing a release this winter for XBLA, PSN and PC as well.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rocketmen-axis-of-evil/">Rocketmen: Axis of Evil</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rocketmen-axis-of-evil/#212941"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rocketmen-axis-of-evil/#212940"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/17m_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rocketmen-axis-of-evil/#212939"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rocketmen-axis-of-evil/#212938"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rocketmen-axis-of-evil/#212937"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>
