The line ended at a small theater lounge, in which we sat down to watch the Ni no Kuni, Professor Layton and the Devil's Flute, and ROID trailers we had just seen from the line.

Finally, we were ushered into a game demo area, and then handed the requisite swag bag. Having been told that the swag bag contained this year's version of the vaunted Level-5 "Premium Gift," with either a DVD or a DS demo cartridge, we decided to share the excitement of opening the sealed envelope with the internet. First it surprised us with a PS3 "Slim" on the very day it was announced -- today it hit us with a final retail PSP Go system just one night after we played a bunch of games on one at a preview event.

So, we of course got the unboxing on video (and in pictures below) but there was one stipulation: We can't actually say anything about the final hardware until a week from Monday, so you'll just have to enjoy the schweet tunes we picked for your aural enjoyment as the unboxing (and our vocal silence) unfolds.

First unveiled during a Gamespot UK unboxing of the new handheld (around the 10:00 mark), the Go allows players of any game to save their progress and perform other functions on the device. Upon returning to the game, you can instantly hop right back into whatever it was you were doing at the time of your save.

In the aforementioned unboxing video, Gamespot UK's Guy Cocker saves his progress during a Motorstorm: Arctic Edge race in order to watch a trailer for Motorstorm: Arctic Edge. Rarely do we get urges to watch trailers for games we're currently playing -- but we suppose we've succumbed to stranger impulses before.

We jokingly throw the word "technophile" around when referring to our colleagues over at Engadget -- but their most recent video preview of the PS3 Slim gives us serious cause for concern. You'll need to watch it (posted after the break) to see what we mean. We're not really disturbed by the way former Joystiq writer Ross Miller pries the svelte console's HDD from its innards. No, it's the soft piano music playing in the background and general tenderness exhibited by the cameraman that give the whole production an unsettling, Graduate-esque feel.

"Oh, hey, PS3 Slim. Look at you. You're looking mighty shapely this evening. Why don't you turn around for me. Yeah, real slow. Let me feel those buttons. That's nice, that's nice. Would you like some wine? We've got a lovely decanter of Garrafeira, imported straight from ... no? Are you comfortable? Good. Let's see that hard drive."

(It was one of the most surreal incidents we can recall from our years of writing about games.)

Even though it won't hit retail shelves in the US until the first week of September, we've had the uncommon opportunity to open the box and offer our first impressions of the svelte console on the day of its announcement. We've documented the unboxing in the photo gallery below, along with a variety of pictures showing the PS3 Slim compared to other consoles, so you can get a better idea of its size (or, compared to the original PS3, its lack thereof).

Our initial impressions: It's definitely smaller, but not shockingly so. (Want shocking? Check out the PS2 "slim" on top of it.) It's still a hefty system that feels well made, and even though it lacks the gloss black and chrome finish of the original PS3, it's a lot nicer looking in person that the initial photos might have led you to believe. There's still a bit of pizazz in the form of a thin piece of glossy translucent plastic covering the eject / power button "panel" that looks extra classy.

Overall, it's about as pared down as we can imagine the platform getting feature-wise; we're curious to see if Sony introduces yet another, considerably smaller redesign a couple of years down the road. Oh, and maybe it will actually come with an HDMI or some component cables ... and not the Slim's composite A/V leads. Seriously, Sony? Seriously?

We got a big package from Capcom this morning, containing not only the Collector's Edition of Resident Evil 5, but also an adorable zombie detection and suppression kit from the fine people of Tricell. What's it all look like? Well, we're glad you asked, as we've lovingly placed a full-on dissection just after the break. Seriously, it's a dissection. There are rubber gloves involved.

In opening the bad boy up, he reveals that the components are a lot smaller than we would have imagined. We're not exactly sure why these unboxing videos have become all the rage. We all know what's inside them, but for some reason, we just can't get enough of seeing the "clothes" come off of our favorite electronic devices. Take for instance the newest unboxing of a white 40GB PS3 and white DualShock 3, which is set to the Scorpions' amazing "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and easily adds at least 100 points to the Cool 'O Meter.

Of course, the white PS3 is only available in Japan and Korea right now, and while there hasn't been an announcement of it making its way to the West, we're sure it's only a matter of time until its arrival.

We knew the PSP-2000 is like the Bionic Man - better, stronger faster, but it's also lighter, too. Apparently, this guy didn't know just how light it was when he recently unboxed a Daxter PSP bundle on his live webcast. After several loud exclamations of surprise mixed with joy and disbelief, we couldn't help but be reminded of a certain boisterous youth on Christmas when he was given a certain Nintendo console.
