Yes, this is an RTS game focused more on map control and exploration than base-building, but the goal was still to move a group of units around a top-down map, something that RTS players know plenty about.<br /><br />Now, however, Trion is much farther along in the game's development, so much so that it's readying for a closed beta in just a few weeks. And as Game Director Dave Luehmann unveils a much more polished build of his company's upcoming free-to-play strategy title, another interesting influence emerges: Riot Games' <em>League of Legends</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/end-of-nations-2-28-2012/">End of Nations (2/28/2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/end-of-nations-2-28-2012/#4854580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/endofnations18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/end-of-nations-2-28-2012/#4854581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/endofnations1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/end-of-nations-2-28-2012/#4854582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/endofnations2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/end-of-nations-2-28-2012/#4854583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/endofnations3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/end-of-nations-2-28-2012/#4854584"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/endofnations4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/29/end-of-nations-nears-launch-open-beta-coming-soon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>End of Nations nears launch, open beta coming soon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/29/end-of-nations-nears-launch-open-beta-coming-soon/">End of Nations nears launch, open beta coming soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Feb 2012 13:30:00 EST. As if you didn't have enough to play this week, RTS fans, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/starcraft-2"><em>Starcraft II</em></a> in beta and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/command-and-conquer-4"><em>Command and Conquer 4</em></a> about to drop, here comes the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/supreme-commander-2"><em>Supreme Commander 2</em></a> demo, now <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/40140/">available for download over on Steam</a>. The demo features 4GB (!) of complex <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gas-powered-games">Gas Powered Games</a> RTS goodness, in which you'll be able to try two levels of the tutorial, as well as play through two missions as the United Earth Federation faction. You'll also get to see some of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/06/supreme-commander-2-screens-and-units-ready-for-duty/">those new units</a> at work, and, we presume, do some supreme commanding. No peerless or incomparable commanders here -- supreme only!<br />
<br />
One of those new units you can try out is a sea-based experimental submarine for the Cybran faction that's modeled and named after <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken">a legendary sea monster</a>. So what are you waiting for? Go download the demo and get kraken!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/26/supreme-commander-2-demo-now-available-on-steam/">Supreme Commander 2 demo now available on Steam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Feb 2010 01:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=15503">February numbers</a> show Nintendo hitting the competition with a one-two punch of hardware dominance -- nearly half a million DS units and a third of a million Wiis were sold in North America in February. The Playstation 2 continued its impressive afterlife with roughly 300K in sales, while Sony's new system continued its slow start, selling only 127K units for the month -- even less than the somewhat-defunct Game Boy Advance.<br /><br />On the software front, <em>Crackdown</em> was the top seller for the month, giving the Xbox 360 had the top selling game for the fourth month in a row (In January it was <em>Lost Planet</em>. In December and November, <em>Gears of War</em>). A free Wii remote sent <em>Wii Play</em> soaring to the No. 2 spot, while the DS rehash of <span style="font-style: italic;">Diddy Kong Racing</span> premiered at No. 3. In more bad news for Sony, perennial favorite <em>Guitar Hero 2</em> was the only game for a Sony system to make the top 10 this month.<br /><br />Continue reading for a complete breakdown of the top-selling hardware and software for the month.<strong><br /></strong><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/16/february-npd-data-show-ds-wii-on-top/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>February NPD data show DS, Wii on top</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/16/february-npd-data-show-ds-wii-on-top/">February NPD data show DS, Wii on top</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Mar 2007 10:25:00 EST. And the conventional wisdom is right -- Japan buys roughly three DS units for every every PSP unit sold. But the seemingly lopsided data belies the interesting fact that Sony has shipped a relatively healthy <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/03/14/psp-passes-the-5-million-mark-in-japan/">5 million Japanese PSP units</a> so far. For context, the GameCube only sold 4 million Japanese units in its entire lifetime, according to <a href="http://www.vgcharts.org/worldcons.php">VGCharts</a>.<br /><br />The data shows the immense popularity of portables in the land of the rising sun, with approximately 20 million combined PSP and DS units sold there since 2004. Compare that to the roughly 3 million combined Japanese sales for the three next generation consoles and it suddenly doesn't seem so crazy to focus on the Japanese portable market <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/12/dragon-quest-ix-announced-as-ds-exclusive/">exclusively</a>. With big-selling franchises like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/06/monster-hunter-portable-2nd-sells-a-million-in-japan/">Monster Hunter</a> supporting even the second-ranked Japanese portable, are the days of the Japanese console numbered?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/15/psp-ships-5mil-in-japan-still-way-behind-ds/">PSP ships 5mil in Japan, still way behind DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Mar 2007 11:30:00 EST. And lo! The hemoglobin feast is upon us. Shrewdly hidden in <a href="http://www.mackenziefinancial.com/en/pub/media_centre/news/includes/ztechnology/060914/z091450.shtml">an interview with Ron Bertram</a>, Nintendo of Canada's vice president and general manager, the number is set:<br /> <br /> "We're looking at a million [units] for North America at launch," said Bertram. "When Sony came out with their PS3 announcement, they said [400,000]."<br /> <br /> One <em>million</em>. This figure might be the magic number, the allocation so that gamers can obtain one within reasonable difficulty, and yet still be in enough short supply to ensure the image of "must-have" hot holiday item. Our <strike>fangs</strike> hearts tingle in anticipation.<em><br /></em><br />[Thanks, John K!]<strong><em><br /></em></strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/25/a-million-wii-units-for-launch-in-north-america/">A million Wii units for launch in North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Sep 2006 08:30:00 EST.
