<small>POWER UP in our gallery</small></center><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a> is bringing a Virtual Console-like experience to PC digital distribution platforms.<em> Sega Genesis Classics</em> is a series of individual Genesis games available for download via Steam and additional, unspecified download services.<br />
<br />
On June 1, PC users will be able to download <em>Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin, Comix Zone, and Vectorman</em>, "from $2.99." We don't yet know how the prices will vary per game, but even if just one is that cheap, it's quite a savings over the $8 Virtual Console price. <br />
<br />
The screenshots sent out by Sega also include images of <em>Gain Ground, Altered Beast, Space Harrier, Crack Down, Sonic 3D Blast</em>, and <em>Shadow Dancer</em>, so we can expect to see those games from the distant past on PC in the near future.<br />
<br />
<b>Update:</b> Sega's <a href="http://blogs.sega.com/usa/2010/05/21/sega-genesis-classics-coming-to-pc/">blog post</a> about the collection clears up the launch lineup: all of these games will actually be available June 1. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sega-genesis-classics-pc/">Sega Genesis Classics (PC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sega-genesis-classics-pc/#3003928"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/20507altered-beast2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sega-genesis-classics-pc/#3003929"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/20508comix-zone4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sega-genesis-classics-pc/#3003931"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/20509crack-downscreen2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sega-genesis-classics-pc/#3003932"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/20510ecco-the-dolphin4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sega-genesis-classics-pc/#3003933"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/20511gain-ground2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/21/sega-genesis-classics-rising-from-their-graves-hitting-steam-an/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sega Genesis Classics rising from their graves, hitting Steam and other PC platforms [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/21/sega-genesis-classics-rising-from-their-graves-hitting-steam-an/">Sega Genesis Classics rising from their graves, hitting Steam and other PC platforms [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 May 2010 14:30:00 EST. Of all the canned games that we wish could see the light of day, the 3D update of <em>Vectorman</em> for PS2 is at the top of the list. ... Okay, maybe he's not at the <em>top</em> of the list, but he could probably walk there. ... Not walk, but it would be a short drive. So, as you've likely gathered, it's with a mountain of <em>measured enthusiasm</em> we present these recently unearthed <a href="http://web.me.com/wojoft/Site/2d_Concept_Development/Pages/Vectorman_2D_Concepts.html">pieces of concept art</a> from the game, discovered by <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/04/18/unreleased-ps2-vectorman-artwork/">Siliconera</a>. <br />
<br />
You can get a slightly better idea of what the game would have played like with the alpha footage after the break. As you'll see, it kind of looks like a blend of <em>Blasto</em> and <em>Red Faction</em>, which probably sounds a lot better in theory than practice.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/20/concept-art-from-canned-vectorman-update-emerges/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Concept art from canned Vectorman update emerges</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/20/concept-art-from-canned-vectorman-update-emerges/">Concept art from canned Vectorman update emerges</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Apr 2010 09:37:00 EST. A pseudo-classic Genesis sidescroller debuts on Virtual Console today, as well as an NES sports favorite ... but really, you're playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/wiiware-adds-mega-man-9-and-an-utter-mystery/"><em>Mega Man 9</em></a> right now. We know. You're not even reading this, are you?<em><br /></em>
<ul>
    <li><em>Super Dodge Ball</em> (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Without adding too much innuendo, the gameplay is pretty self-explanatory. You dodge balls.</li>
    <li><em>Vectorman</em><span></span><em> </em>(Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): While he never became as popular as <em>Mega Man</em>, this robot fought without a torso, and best of all, could shoot upwards.<br /></li>

<br />Well folks, just as stated, we've got a new <span style="font-style: italic;">Mega Man </span>game to play this week. What's even better is that along with the sure-to-be-awesome <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mega Man 9</span></a>, we've also got some solid retail releases. And there's a surprise or two with this week's Virtual Console releases, as well. Head on past the break for the info. The Wii's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/virtual%20console">Virtual Console</a> will be seeing four games from Sega sometime soon and while they're not all winners, there is some good news.<br /><br />The good news is that the tragically under-appreciated <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_Oasis"><em>Beyond Oasis</em></a> will be making its way to the Virtual Console. The bad news is so is <em>Sonic Spinball</em>, <em>Sword of Vermillion</em> and <em>Vectorman</em>. Unless of course you enjoy them. In that case, congratulations! <br /><br />At 800 points each ($8.00), they're all somewhat of a hard sell, but <em>Beyond Oasis</em> is certainly worth a download if you never got a chance to play it before. Others like <em>Vectorman</em>, on the other hand, are proof that nostalgia can be quite the mistress.<br /><br />Coincidentally, all of these titles have been available on <a href="http://gametap.com">GameTap</a> for quite some time.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/segas-virtual-console-titles/">Sega's Virtual Console Titles</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/segas-virtual-console-titles/#166250"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/beyond-oasis_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/segas-virtual-console-titles/#166249"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/swordofvermilion_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/segas-virtual-console-titles/#166248"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/sonic_spinball_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/segas-virtual-console-titles/#166247"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/vectorman_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/22/vectorman-of-vermillion-spinball-oasis-for-virtual-console/">Vectorman of Vermillion: Spinball Oasis for Virtual Console</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 15:30:00 EST. <p>Of all the classic games in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/sega-genesis-collection/"><em>Sega Genesis Collection</em></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altered_Beast"><em>Altered Beast</em></a> is probably the one I have the most fond memories of. I remember, as a wee lad, going over my cousin's house to see him play it on his new Sega Genesis. Back then, the graphics were so unbelievably awesome, and when I saw the main character transform into a werewolf, I just about died with excitement. It's truly a classic.</p>
<p>And the <em>Vectorman </em>series is a classic in its own right. In <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectorman_2"><em>Vectorman 2</em></a>, which was released in 1996, you are charged with battlng mutant insects and ultimately saving the world by defeating the Black Widow Queen.</p>

For those of you Sony fanboys that'll avoid the Wii like its a smelly grandmother, there's finally an alternative: <em>Sega Genesis Collection</em>, a compliation of <strong>nearly thirty</strong> Genesis games is heading to the PSP. The disc will not only come loaded with the games, but exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. PSP owners can rejoice in knowing that an exclusive wireless multiplayer mode is being created just for them. Maybe it'll even support Game Sharing? (I hope so!) Here's the list of games:<br />
