The convention <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/01/25/no-blizzcon-in-2012-battle-net-championship-to-be-held-in-asia/">took a vacation</a> last year, making Blizzcon 2013 a super-special occasion.<br /><br />This year's show will feature all the trappings of previous installments, including panels, tournaments, contests, rare merchandise, demos of the newest Blizzard games and the Global finals of Blizzard esports, all focused on the World of Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo franchises.<br /><br />There's no word yet on when tickets to Blizzcon 2013 will go on sale, though <a href="https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_ei_new&amp;eventID=10517512">hotel reservations</a> are live through the Blizzcon portal. Keep in mind that in 2011, tickets to Blizzcon sold out within seconds.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/blizzcon-is-back-in-action-nov-8-9-in-anaheim/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Blizzcon is back in action Nov. 8, 9 in Anaheim</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/blizzcon-is-back-in-action-nov-8-9-in-anaheim/">Blizzcon is back in action Nov. 8, 9 in Anaheim</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 13:00:00 EST. Titles fall out of the top ten within days or weeks (if they ever get there at all), there are awesome new releases arriving every month or so, and even the biggest games are on a yearly (if that) sequel schedule at this point. And yet <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> has remained a constant. Blizzard's MMO has held millions of players in sway for over half a decade, and those players have killed countless boars, cleared out endless quests, dungeons, and raids, and have vanquished not one but three world-threatening expansion bosses, in the forms of Illidan Stormrage, Arthas the Lich King, and Deathwing and his Cataclysm.<br /><br />So Blizzard is perhaps taking on its hardest task ever with the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/25/world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-sets-a-new-direction-for-bl/"><em>Mists of Pandaria </em>expansion</a>. There's no question in the halls of the (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/29/blizzard-cuts-600-employees-most-not-in-game-development/">recently quieter</a>) Blizzard campus in Irvine, California that the game is at a crossroads of sorts. Blizzard's formula for <em>WoW</em> expansions (define a baddie, and lead a player to gear and level up to the final fight) has worked so far, but it's almost as if the company realizes that the old tricks are getting old.<br /><br />Blizzard needs, then, to take <em>World of Warcraft</em>, one of history's most-played, most-traversed, and most-conquered games, and make it feel new. "This is definitely different fare from any expansion we've tried so far," VP of Creative Development Chris Metzen said in a presentation to assembled press. He then talked about the game on a much longer scale than a few weeks, a few months, or even a <em>Call of Duty</em>-length year. "The big global threat that's coming, to define the next couple years of <em>WoW</em>'s gameplay, is really war itself."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-3-18-12/">World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria (3/18/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-3-18-12/#4903562"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/wowmistsofpandaria28_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-3-18-12/#4903563"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/wowmistsofpandaria1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-3-18-12/#4903564"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/wowmistsofpandaria2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-3-18-12/#4903565"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/wowmistsofpandaria3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-3-18-12/#4903566"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/wowmistsofpandaria4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/mists-of-pandaria-tries-to-breath-new-life-into-an-old-world-of/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mists of Pandaria tries to breathe new life into an old World of Warcraft</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/mists-of-pandaria-tries-to-breath-new-life-into-an-old-world-of/">Mists of Pandaria tries to breathe new life into an old World of Warcraft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2012 03:00:00 EST. Fan fiction writers, gather round! Well, first, close out of all those Word documents you've been agonizing over for the past few months. <em>You know the ones we're talking about</em>. The ones which involve <em>throbbing</em>. And <em>quivering</em>. And <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em>. Why not put your unique skill set to good (and infinitely less creepy) use, and participate in <a href="http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/community/contests/writing2010/">Blizzard's Global Writing Contest</a>?<br />
<br />
The company is accepting 2,500 to 7,500-word pieces of fiction set in the <em>Diablo</em>, <em>StarCraft</em> or <em>WarCraft</em> universes until August 23, 2010. The grand prize winner will receive a tour of Blizzard HQ, where they'll meet the team's writing staff, and will walk away with some sweet Blizzard collectibles. Also, though the <a href="http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/community/contests/writing2010/">contest's FAQ</a> doesn't explicitly prohibit it, we'd strongly advise against sending in your steamy, Kerrigan/Thrall-fronted erotic fantasy-thriller.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/05/blizzard-global-writing-contest-now-open-for-submissions/">Blizzard Global Writing Contest now open for submissions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Jul 2010 21:00:00 EST. Blizzard, in preparation for the launch of <em>StarCraft 2</em> and the new Battle.net framework, <a href="http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=24401612571&amp;sid=3000">recently banned over 320,000</a> <em>Diablo 2</em> and <em>Warcraft 3</em> players that violated the company's Terms of Use by using hacks and third-party tools. According to a census taken earlier this year, there are currently <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceland">317,630 people living in Iceland</a>. Let's take a moment to appreciate the fact that so many people play Blizzard's games, its moderators can ban more people than the entire population of the 175th largest country on the planet. <br />
<br />
Folks from all corners of the world -- not just Icelanders -- who were found to be using illicit means of self-improvement while playing the two games had the CD key tied to the cheated game in question revoked for 30 days, while repeat offenders were banned permanently. It's not worth it, our dear readers! Keep it legit!<br />

<small><em><font color="gray">This past Saturday brought us the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Spike-VGA-2009">Spike TV Video Game Awards</a> and - before experiencing the litany of world exclusives that awaited us inside - we spent some time outside cruising the red carpet and talking (briefly!) to many of the game developers and talent. We squeezed them for information as fast as we could while simultaneously wishing them holiday cheer and good tidings. Yes, it was as awkward as it sounds. Here's what we learned from Felicia Day about, well ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/felicia-day">Felicia Day</a>.</font></em></small><em><br />
<br />
</em><strong>How's <a href="http://www.watchtheguild.com/">the show</a> going? </strong><br />
<br />
We just, a couple of weeks ago, the last episode of Season Three came out so we're between seasons right now. We're waiting for an update from Microsoft ... or Xbox. And I'm writing a comic book for Dark Horse before we start Season Four. Jim Rugg is the artist, but we have some amazing cover artists ... I can't say who yet, but when I get the art back I'm just blown away.<br />
<br />
<strong>We talked with Blizzard about the 5 &amp; 15 year anniversaries for Warcraft, and we asked them why there are no girls in the "What's Your Game" commercials and they asked us for suggestions. Why haven't you done one?<br />
<br />
</strong>I know! You know, that would be a good call for me ... I'm one of those people who are recognized in certain circles, and not in others, and I like to keep it that way. But it would be great, I mean ... I'm a <em>WoW</em> girl, I love it!<br />
<br />
<strong>So you think you could see yourself in one of those wacky commercials?</strong><br />
<br />
I would hope that they wouldn't be able to put my head on their character, <a href="http://www.wow.com/2009/11/16/mr-t-promotes-the-mohawk-grenade/">like with the Mr. T one</a>. Because that would just be too creepy. It already was creepy! I was trying to do like my "Thanksgiving" quest and I'm all "Stop with the Mr. T!" They were all over the place!<br />
<br />
<strong>Are you working on anything now?</strong><br />
<br />
I'm filming the last episode of Dollhouse. The way that they wrap everything up is amazing, they really did it. I think I still have some apocalyptic dirt on my neck still. Also, I'm on an episode of Lie to Me ... I've been working for Fox a lot and I don't know why!<br />
<br />
<strong>Are you playing anything else besides <em>WoW</em> right now?</strong><br />
<br />
Well, I play everything ... except I haven't played <em>Uncharted 2</em> yet. I don't have a PS3. You know ... those are tax-deductible. Maybe I need to pick one up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/17/vga-2009-felicia-day-on-felicia-day/">VGA 2009: Felicia Day on Felicia Day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Dec 2009 01:30:00 EST. Happy Pilgrim's Bounty, everybody! That's the brand new Thanksgiving holiday going on right now in the <em>World of Warcraft</em>, where you can level up your cooking for cheap, chase turkeys around in-game, and even earn yourself the title of "Pilgrim." You'll find <a href="http://www.wow.com/2009/11/20/the-overachiever-guide-to-pilgrims-bounty-2009/">information about Pilgrim's Bounty</a> and everything else in <em>Warcraft</em> over on Joystiq's sister site, <a href="http://wow.com">WoW.com</a>. <div style="text-align: left;">Gaze on it, and despair! The abomination above is a common sight in the <em>World of Warcraft</em> this week -- Blizzard has kicked off their marketing season with <a href="http://www.wow.com/2009/11/16/mr-t-promotes-the-mohawk-grenade/">another commercial from Mr. T</a>, as well as an in-game item to go along with it. It's the Mohawk Grenade, an item that, when thrown, makes <em>WoW</em> characters look like T himself. Awesome? Terrible? You decide.<br />

Korean professional gamer Jae Ho "Moon" Jang has signed a three-year, $486,500 <a href="http://www.sk-gaming.com/content/22880-FOX_officially_unveils_record_signing_Moon/">contract</a> to play with WeMade FOX in the Korean gaming leagues. His manager is working on introducing more quality players as there "aren't many first-class players in Korea." Um, if you're, like, really good at <em>Warcraft/StarCraft</em> ... now's the time to start learning Korean.<br /><br />Best part: Jang isn't even the highest paid professional Korean player, just the highest paid <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/warcraft-III"><em>Warcraft</em></a> player. Top billing goes to his WeMade FOX teammate, Yoon Yeoi "NaDa" Lee, who signed a contract for $521,250 to play <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/starcraft-2"><em>StarCraft</em></a> back in 2007. If you consider yourself to be <em>quite the wordsmith</em>, we suggest turning your attention to a recently announced contest from the PC gaming juggernauts at Blizzard. The developer <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/us/inblizz/contests/writing/">is currently asking literarily inclined fans to produce</a> 3,000 to 10,000-word short stories set in the universe of the <em>Warcraft</em>, <em>Diablo</em> or <em>Starcraft</em> series. The author of the judges' favorite novelette gets a free ride to Blizzard HQ to meet the team's writing staff, and will take home a replica Frostmourne sword with which they can behead their harshest literary critics.<br /><br />You can check out <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/us/inblizz/contests/writing/legal.html">the official rules here</a>. Yes, they're disqualifying entries containing any obscene or lewd activities -- so save your "throbbing" and "heaving" for your <em>breathtakingly</em> erotic <em>Sonic the Hedgehog </em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_fiction">slash fiction</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/03/15/blizzard-fiction-wrting-contest-announced/">Big Download</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/15/blizzard-looking-for-short-stories-based-on-its-games/">Blizzard looking for short stories based on its games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Mar 2009 17:30:00 EST. Here's something we never knew we wanted to know about: What kind of dreams game developers are having. MTV has answered the unasked with <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/12/01/what-powerful-video-game-developers-dream-of/">a new post</a>, and the tales of cross-dressing as <em>Mirror's Edge's' </em>Faith and pet Balverines are so good we're tempted to start leading every interview off with a discussion about the subconcious.<br /><br />MTV has also given us a great idea for a new, multi-platform IP from Joystiq Publishing: <em>Imagine Recurring Dreamz</em>. So look for <em>All Your Teeth Are Falling Out</em> this fall, <em>Going To Places In Your Underwear </em>next spring and <em>Doing It With Your Third-Grade Choir Teacher While TV's Mr. Belvedere Looks On In Disgust</em> in Q4 of 2009.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/mtv-discovers-how-developers-dream/">MTV discovers how developers dream</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 13:00:00 EST. GameTrailers continues its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/warcraft-retrospective/">Warcraft Retrospective</a> by delving deep into the <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://joystiq.com/tag/world-of-warcraft">World of Warcraft</a>, where the women are strong, the men are good looking, and all the children are above average. The episode covers how Blizzard employees conspired in the small town of Lake Wobegon to make a designer drug that would go on to hook <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/world-of-warcraft-of-reaches-11-million-mark/">11 million people</a> in its clutches. Clearly, <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/01/12/know-your-lore-illidan/">Illidan</a> was right: we were not prepared.<br /><br />Wow, people interested in this piece actually made it this far? Seriously, don't y'all have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king/">new continent to pillage and level cap to reach</a>? For those who can't explore Northrend because they're stuck in a cubicle farm for the rest of the day, the video -- a cheap WoW fix -- can be found after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/11/12/wow-moviewatch-warcraft-retrospective-pt-iii/">WoW Insider</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/warcraft-retrospective-part-iii-is-ready-to-wow/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Warcraft Retrospective: Part III is ready to WoW</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/warcraft-retrospective-part-iii-is-ready-to-wow/">Warcraft Retrospective: Part III is ready to WoW</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 12:00:00 EST. Despite appearances of similarities, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/warhammer-online">Warhammer Online</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/world-of-warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a></em> are very different games. Looking at screenshots and videos will only tell you so much, because it's under the hood where you'll find the differences. That's where this handy guide comes into play. It's here to explain why certain quests in <em>WAR</em> are considered "public" and what "instances" are really all about. Unlike our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/09/warhammer-online-through-the-eyes-of-a-wow-player/">previous guide</a>, this is for the total MMO newb. <br /><br />The MMO genre has been slow to evolve. A primary reason being that games take a long time to come to market. So what's so special about these two games that you'd actually want to know the differences between them? Click on through to find out.

<div align="left">Of course, if you know Blizzard at all, you know it doesn't really like the whole concept of "release dates" -- the developers prefer to say they'll release the next <em>WoW</em> expansion "when it's ready." But a bunch of retailers have recently <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/08/29/online-retailers-point-towards-a-november-4-release-for-wrath/2#comments">pointed their noses at November 4th</a> (with a November 3rd midnight release, so says the sign from an Australian store above), and if that turns out to be true, it's gonna be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/resistance-2-releasing-nov-4-co-op-beta-starting-early-oct/">a busy Election Day</a>. Earlier this week, Blizzard released a patch for <span style="font-style: italic;">Warcraft 3</span>, known to some of you as "the game before <span style="font-style: italic;">World of Warcraft</span>" and the rest as "the client for playing <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_of_the_Ancients"><span style="font-style: italic;">Defense of the Ancients</span></a>." Patch 1.22a provides balance changes for the units, fixes some technical issues and includes four new maps. You can update the game by either logging onto Battle.net or by downloading the patches manually (available from BigDownload).<br /><br />PC (1.22a requires patch 1.21b for installation)<br />

Tabletop gamers are no strangers to the game <em>Blood Bowl</em>, which we mentioned <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/cyanide-confirms-blood-bowl-for-xbox-360-psp-ds/">back in November</a>. The game has spanned 22 years, multiple editions and several expansion sets. The basic concept is "fantasy" football, literally. As in orcs, trolls, elves and the like playing an organized team sport where they try to tear their opponents' heads off. Check out the newly released, <span style="font-style: italic;">Warcraft</span>-tastic trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/blood-bowl-trailer-channels-madden-warcraft/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Blood Bowl trailer channels Madden + Warcraft</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/blood-bowl-trailer-channels-madden-warcraft/">Blood Bowl trailer channels Madden + Warcraft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 23:15:00 EST. Blizzard's new <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/us/splash.html">splash page</a> has set the internet on fire. With the developer's <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/wwi">Worldwide Invitational</a> set to begin this Saturday in Paris, we've got about three more days to speculate wildly as hundreds of "top secret inside sources that are 110% reliable" feed us tips about the big news. <br /><br />The top two rumors seem to be <em><a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/25/d3-suggested-by-battle-net-forums/">Diablo</a> <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/25/rumor-confirmation-of-diablo-3-announcement/">3</a></em> and a <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king"><em>Wrath of the Lich King</em></a> release date, but we think anything's possible -- if you recall, last year's big announcement was <em>Starcraft II</em>. Blizzard has launched a <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/store/">new online store</a>, selling games (both digital and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/off-the-grid">off the grid)</a>, books, collectibles, limited apparel and more. The store is now also offering titles for digital download -- right now only <em>Starcraft</em> and <em>Warcraft III </em>(as well as their respective expansion packs) are available, but according to this handy <a href="http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=22765">F.A.Q.</a>, more will be made available later. <br /><br />As noted by <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/05/03/blizzard-launches-new-online-store/">WoW Insider</a>, registering for the store enters you into a lottery to partake in an upcoming beta such as <em>Wrath of the Lich King, Starcraft II </em>or the as-of-yet unannounced (but we dream so very much) <em>Rock and Roll Racing </em>MMO.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/05/03/blizzard-launches-new-online-store/">WoW Insider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/blizzard-store-relaunched-with-digital-downloads/">Blizzard store relaunched with digital downloads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 May 2008 23:30:00 EST. Pardo shared what the iconic company has learned over the years of releasing titles like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wow/"><em>WoW</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/starcraft/"><em>Starcraft</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/warcraft/"><em>Warcraft</em></a> regarding game balance, PvP and UI design, player psychology and more. Lots of great <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/patch-2.4" style="">patch 2.4</a> and <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/sunwell">Sunwell</a> news on Joystiq's sister site WoW Insider this week. Or do you already have a flashcart, but you're not sure what else to look into after trying out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/the-homebrew-cookbook-recipes-and-recommendations-for-2007/">recommendations in our homebrew cookbook</a>? <br /><br />GBAtemp has put together a list of 30 homebrew releases -- 13 of which are applications, the remaining 17 being games -- that warrant your attention. Videos, screenshots, and short summaries are provided for each downloadable item, giving you a quick synopsis of the notable projects out there. We've previewed most of the mentioned games before, like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/a-puzzling-connection/">Setsuzoku no Puzzle</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/bulletgba-shoots-us-in-the-face/">BulletGBA/Vulkanon</a></em>, and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/12/homebrew-tower-defense-mod-from-warcraft-3-to-the-ds/">WarCraft: Tower Defense</a></em>, but having them all rounded up in one place is convenient.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/thirty-homebrew-apps-and-games-to-try-out/">Thirty homebrew apps and games to try out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jan 2008 11:15:00 EST. If you're Blizzard, you can try responding to a YouTube rant about an absent <span style="font-style: italic;">WarCraft III </span>patch. Perhaps there is life after <em>World of Warcraft</em> after all, and it is likely just as addicting. <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/">Various job listings</a> for Blizzard list a "Next-Gen MMO" as the project for which they are hiring. Though many forum posters guessed this was just a way for the company to be coy about needing extra manpower for the upcoming <em>Wrath of the Lich King </em>expansion, company man "Drysc" (<a href="http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=3168513730&amp;sid=1&amp;pageNo=2">38th post</a>) confirmed that it is not for the <em>Lich King </em>but, as it says in the job listing, "<span class="blue">it is an unannounced Next-Gen MMO ... </span><span class="blue">And that doesn't mean an expansion for <em>World of Warcraft </em>either."</span><br /><br />Is anyone really surprised that Blizzard would be staying in the MMO market, given their first entry into the genre makes more money than self-replicating Nintendo DS systems? Of course, given their lengthy development cycles (that have been promised to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/02/blizzard-wants-you-to-know-that-the-merger-wont-affect-their-ga/">remain intact</a> following its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/02/activision-and-vivendi-merge-in-18-billion-deal/">merger with Activision</a>), it may be years, if not a decade, before we see anything from it.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=152768">GamePro</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/blizzard-job-listing-is-for-unannounced-next-gen-mmo/">Blizzard lists jobs for 'unannounced Next-Gen MMO'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Dec 2007 21:50:00 EST. Like an unholy alliance, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dell">Dell</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a> have teamed up to unleash this beast of a laptop computer into the world. The <span style="width: 728px;"><a href="http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/m1730_wow?c=us&amp;cs=19&amp;l=en&amp;s=dhs&amp;dgc=EM&amp;cid=26383&amp;lid=601037">XPS M1730 World of Warcraft Edition</a> comes in Horde and Alliance flavors, and sells for $4,499 USD. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wow"><em>WoW</em></a>, indeed.<br /><br />Admittedly, you get a lot more than just the laptop for nearly five large. The deal includes a <em>WoW</em>-branded backpack, a "golden ticket" entitling the buyer to a FigurePrint of their in-game avatar, a special key to all future <em>WoW</em> betas, and a plethora of </span><span style="width: 728px;"><em>Warcraft </em>merchandise, including novels, trading cards, soundtrack CDs, strategy guides, and a behind-the-scenes DVD disc.<br /><br /></span><span style="width: 728px;">The computer itself is a 17" widescreen notebook, with backlit keyboard, illuminated speaker grills, and a built-in LCD screen dedicated to displaying in-game stats. The laptop also comes pre-loaded with <em>World of Warcraft</em>, as well as <em>The Burning Crusade</em> expansion. We haven't done the math, but we're pretty sure it's still not a bargain. Still, it's a nice little collection for the <em>Warcraft</em> enthusiasts out there.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/12/04/dell-announces-world-of-warcraft-edition-laptops/">WoW Insider</a>]<br /></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/04/dell-offers-special-edition-world-of-warcraft-laptop-for-a-smal/">Dell offers special edition World of Warcraft laptop (for a small fortune)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Dec 2007 10:58:00 EST. Hopefully by this time next year, however, both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/07/blizzcon-hands-on-schooling-with-starcraft-2/"><em>StarCraft 2</em></a> and the WoW expansion <em>Wrath of the Lich King</em> will be on store shelves, or in your hands. Until then we'll be waiting for the dribbles to trickle out of Blizzard with more information.<br /><br />But, all is not lost. They did send us out with a bang that included 30 minutes of fairly decent comedy with <a href="http://www.jaymohr.com/">Jay Mohr</a>, a performance by <a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Level_60_Elite_Tauren_Chieftain">Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain</a> (the highlight of the night of which a brief video appears above), and a pretty sweet set from <a href="http://www.videogameslive.com">Video Games Live</a>, including the Diablo theme being played on a 12-string guitar. That was the best moment of the night, and makes us wonder even more when there will be some sort of a <em>Diablo</em> sequel.<br /><br />Check out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-2007/">gallery</a> below, which contains some new shots from the closing ceremonies. You can always head over after the break to listen to the complete audio of Jay's performance, the L70ETC set, and the Video Games Live goodness. In handy mp3 format for your listening pleasure. Blizzard and its MMO <em>World of Warcraft </em>has been very kind to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/southpark">South Park</a> creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. In addition to providing source material (as well as helping with the filming) of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/south-parks-world-of-warcraft-episode-gets-emmy-nomination/">Emmy-nominated</a> episode "Make Love, Not Warcraft." <br /><br />Now the duo is returning the favor by including a 14-day trial of the MMO with its upcoming 10th season DVD collection, which includes the episode in question, according to a <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&amp;STORY=/www/story/08-06-2007/0004640117&amp;EDATE=">press release</a> from Comedy Central. There were also a couple of Murlocs in there, even a baby version, but the icing on the cake has to go to the first guy in the video above. <br /><br />He shows off "The Origins of the Ogre Dance", and we have to say it takes guts to get up on stage and do this. Literally. Unfortunately, he didn't even win or place, which is a complete travesty. The guy was robbed. The <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16uW70RfT_s">winning entry</a>, which we didn't capture on video, was a guy in a Napoleon Dynamite-esque costume who wasn't half bad (he did the Blood Elf male dance, which is based on Napoleon Dynamite's famous move) ... but imitating <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xj1TZaypSY">Chris Farley's classic SNL skit</a> while at a fan convention for a video game is pure gold.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/blizzcon-the-dances-of-warcraft/">BlizzCon: The Dances of Warcraft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Aug 2007 21:00:00 EST. <br /><strong>[UPDATE - now with video, after the break]</strong><br /><br />BlizzCon brings out the strangest, coolest, and most insanely detailed costumes this side of Outland, and we were front and center at last night's costume contest, hosted by comedian Jay Mohr. He appeared to have taken notes from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/watch-activision-alienate-E3-audience-with-jamie-kennedy/">Jamie Kennedy's appearance</a> at E3, and was actually funny instead of stupid.<br /><br />Check out the gallery down below for the highlights, and be sure to take a look at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/339521/">winning Warlock costume</a>. The girl who designed it was patient enough to pose for a billion photos afterwards with her heavy (and lighted!) helmet, and as far as we know she wore it all night. We even saw her waiting in line for the bus with those wings still on. Most entries were from <em>WoW</em>, but there were a couple of nods to other Blizzard games, including a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/337445/">Terran Ghost</a> from <em>Starcraft</em>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/">BlizzCon Costumes</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339524"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/sany0071_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339522"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/hpim4842_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339521"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/sany0062_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339519"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/hpim4850_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/hpim4849_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/04/world-of-warcraft-players-blizzcon-costumes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World of Warcraft players + BlizzCon = costumes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/04/world-of-warcraft-players-blizzcon-costumes/">World of Warcraft players + BlizzCon = costumes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Aug 2007 16:27:00 EST. We trekked across the Burning Steppes, hacked our way through Stranglethorn Vale, and even slinked through the Scarlet Monastery to get to BlizzCon 2007, and so far the trip has left us exhausted, bereft of gold, and low on HP. We've retired to <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/07/25/first-wow-insider-meetup-at-blizzcon-join-us/">The Lost Bar</a> at Disneyland to catch up with the <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/">WoW Insider</a> folks, who are plying us with alcohol and chicken tenders, trying to get Joystiq secrets from our primal mooncloth bags.<br /><br />We'll be doling out more info over the next few days than you can shake Onyxia's tail at, so look for it here, or over on Joystiq's sibling (and Horde loving site) <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/blizzcon">WoW Insider</a>. In the meantime, check out the gallery below, and some totally awesome swag bag Murloc suit goodness after the break. Also, it'll be nice for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/28/tyra-banks-downs-level-60-baby-neglecter/">hardcore <em>WoW</em> players</a> to get outside for a bit. It helps to air out once a year.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/06/15/blizzcon-tickets-sold-out/">WoWInsider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/16/blizzcon-sold-out-let-the-scalping-begin/">BlizzCon sold out, let the scalping begin</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 16 Jun 2007 16:30:00 EST. A 10-day trial for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/worldofwarcraft"><em>World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade</em></a>, direct from Vivendi's distributor in Fresno, California. Within it a substance so dangerous, we had to <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/">quarantine</a> those still weak to it. <br /><br />The rest of us, however, have been <a href="http://www.aetv.com/intervention/">rehabilitated</a>. We've moved on and became well-rounded people with our own friends and credit cards and keys... and yet, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/19/you-think-youre-excited-about-starcraft-ii/">kings of Korea</a> know all too well of our past as the included pamphlet makes note of our previous <em>Warcraft</em> account. They also understand the power of peer pressure and include an extra 10-day trial for our clean and sober friends.<br /><br />They wish for us to become <em>enablers</em>.<br /><br />Evidence lays behind the cut, complete with blow, yet sans <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/pack-your-bags-australian-game-reviewers-offered-hookers/">hookers</a>. Those are reserved only for the most <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/shocking-and-outrageous-game-release-parties/">desperate</a> of game journalists. Now, to melt this baby down in a dirty spoon and pump it into our veins.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/blizzard-tempts-us-to-ride-the-warcraft-snake-once-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Blizzard tempts us to ride the Warcraft snake once more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/blizzard-tempts-us-to-ride-the-warcraft-snake-once-more/">Blizzard tempts us to ride the Warcraft snake once more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Jun 2007 03:00:00 EST. However, the secretive developer could also be working on, say, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/worldofwarcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> expansion. We're not getting our hopes up until Blizzard announces what game is being beta tested.<br /></span><br />Also revealed as swag for the event is the pictured Murloc Suit that you can give your <em>WoW </em>avatar. Other swag will be "<span class="contentBlock">announced in a future update."</span><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/06/04/starcraft-2-beta-keys-for-all-blizzcon-visitors/">WoW Insider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/04/blizzcon-attendees-to-get-beta-key-for-upcoming-blizzard-game/">BlizzCon attendees to get beta key for 'upcoming Blizzard game'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Jun 2007 17:54:00 EST.
