When's the last time you saw another person? A real human being? You see, we're stuck here. Inside the internet. And short of Facebook profile pics and, well, some questionable adult sites (is foot crushing really a thing?) we haven't seen anyone in years. That's why it's so great to see EA bringing another Hasbro classic to yet another digital platform, with its release of <em>Yahtzee HD</em> for iPad. It's just like Yahtzee for real life, except made entirely of ones and zeroes.<br />
<br />
Miss the tactile feeling of rolling dice out of a plastic cup? Travis Boatman, Vice President of Worldwide Studios for EA Mobile, says that "rolling the dice across the iPad's expansive screen is addicting." Cursed with an army of digi-friends and no meat-based friends, like we are? Use Facebook Connect "to issue friendly challenges and post high scores." All yours for the asking price of $5. <br />

Rather than make a four-to-six minute video decrying the lack of gaming-themed bars in his current country of residence, <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation">The Escapist's Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw</a> has partnered with three other gentlemen to open <a href="http://www.manabar.com.au/">Mana Bar</a>. According to the press release, the Brisbane-based bar will open in February and targets "a wider casual market, while still catering to the hardcore gamer crowd." <br />
<br />
There is no charge for entry or to play games (from "the latest video game systems"), and the presser details plans for tournaments and game release parties (among other things). The bar even has a <a href="http://twitter.com/themanabar">Twitter</a> and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/TheManaBar">Facebook</a> page up already with plenty of extra details and photos should you choose to follow along with the renovation process. Unfortunately, the only mention of refreshments is the "unique selection of drinks and custom cocktails" available, as well as the picture you see above. We are anxiously awaiting the presumably lengthy beer list.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/10/yahtzee-and-others-to-open-australian-video-game-bar/">Yahtzee and others to open Australian video game bar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 10 Jan 2010 20:30:00 EST. If you, like young Mikey, love matching rows of similarly colored checkers but can't stand being around other people and <em>all their germs</em>, your salvation will arrive this Wednesday in the form of <em>Connect Four</em>, one of the first offerings in Xbox Live's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/family-game-night"><em>Hasbro Family Game Night</em></a> series.<br /><br />Other games arriving today include <em>Scrabble</em>, <em>Yahtzee</em> and <em>Battleship</em> with <em>Boggle, Sorry!</em> and <em>Sorry! Sliders</em> coming later in the year. All the titles will be playable in a virtual game room that, <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/02/25/hasbro-family-games-release-mid-march-include-avatar-support/">in some way</a>, incorporates Avatars. If you'd like to play beloved family games as you replace your friends and loved ones with digital simulacra, you can expect to pony up <img alt="" src="file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Justin/LOCALS~1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg" /><img alt="" src="file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Justin/LOCALS~1/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.jpg" /><img alt="" src="file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Justin/LOCALS~1/Temp/moz-screenshot-2.jpg" />800<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10) a piece. <br />
<em>Scrabble</em>, <em>Connect Four</em>, <em>Battleship </em>and <em>Yahtzee</em> will be the first four Hasbro<em> </em>titles made available when Xbox Live's special Family Game Night Destination launches next month. <em>Boggle</em>, <em>Sorry!</em> and <em>Sorry! Sliders</em> will release later this year.<br />
<br />
The press release also confirms <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/avatars">Avatars</a> will be supported and that each title can be purchased individually for 800<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10). If that wasn''t enough information, we're told the Family Game Night Destination lets players launch Hasbro games from their own customized game room. This uniquely decorated space accommodates Mr. Potato Head, can be shared with friends and sounds to be somewhat <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/home">inspired by Home</a>.<br />

After it was first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/rumor-ea-brings-monopoly-and-scrabble-to-xbla/">rumored</a> nearly a year ago (along with <em>Monopoly</em>), EA has <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=357717">announced</a> that <em>Scrabble </em>is indeed heading to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Xbox-Live-Arcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a>. The company also announced the creation of a brand new Hasbro Family Game Night "channel" in Xbox Live Arcade. The channel will serve as a "digital game closet," according to EA Hasbro general manager Chip Lange, where players can quickly access various Hasbro games without leaving the channel. Players will be able to "earn virtual trophies, furniture and themes" to decorate their closets by playing Hasbro games. In addition to <em>Scrabble</em>, other titles planned for the service include <em>Sorry!</em>, <em>Sorry! Sliders</em>, <em>Battleship</em>, <em>Connect Four</em>, <em>Boggle</em> and <em>Yahtzee</em>.<br />
<br />
The Hasbro Family Game Night channel is set to debut this spring, though no specific dates have been given for any of the individual game releases. Oh, one more thing: No <em>Monopoly</em> mentioned, folks. Sorry.<br />

Electronic Arts <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=357717">announced</a> today that <em>Scrabble</em> will make its way to the DS and PSP in March, and to Xbox Live Arcade at a later date. Beginning in spring, XBLA will not only receive the perennial wordsmith board game, but also <em>Boggle</em>, <em>Battleship</em>, <em>Yahtzee</em>, <em>Connect Four</em>, <em>Sorry</em>! and <em>Sorry!Sliders</em>.<br />
<br />
In a very interesting development, XBLA will also receive a branded "Hasbro Family Game Night" channel. Chip Lange, general manager of EA Hasbro, says it'll allow players to easily find family-friendly digital board games. We only wish that Microsoft would extend such a courtesy to the high-quality European board games that are also available on the service.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/06/xbla-receiving-hasbro-game-channel-eas-scrabble-coming-to-hand/">XBLA receiving Hasbro game channel; EA's Scrabble coming to handhelds, consoles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 11:23:00 EST. We love <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Yahtzee">Yahtzee</a>, but our love is constantly being tempered by a severe mistrust of disembodied voices (<em>A Christmas Story</em>? Ho-ho-horrifying.) Thankfully, the fast-talking game critic has put on some pants, gathered a couple of friends (co-hosts Yug and Matt), gotten a camera and created <em>Game Damage</em>, a video game show pilot that they're hoping attracts some network attention.<br /><br />The crew is still trying to find a balance between being TV hosts and just talking, and some bits fall flat. But Yahtzee (and the offbeat topics) would probably be enough reason for us to tune in. Watch after the break and see if you agree.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/yahtzee-gets-in-front-of-the-camera-on-game-damage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Yahtzee gets in front of the camera on Game Damage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/yahtzee-gets-in-front-of-the-camera-on-game-damage/">Yahtzee gets in front of the camera on Game Damage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Dec 2008 09:45:00 EST. <br />In this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a>, imperator of ire and maharajah of moodiness Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw has taken time out to sling a few quick-witted barbs at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sonic-unleashed"><em>Sonic Unleashed</em></a>.<br /><br />True to form, Yahtzee quickly sets about smacking <em>Unleashed</em> down a peg or ten; in fact, this could be one of the <em>angriest</em> pieces we've seen from Croshaw in some time. It didn't totally agree with our own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/wii-fanboy-review-sonic-unleashed/">mainly scathing review</a>, either: for one, he seems to <em>prefer</em> the <strike>Werehog</strike> Wolfhog stages (madness, we say, but horses for courses, and all that), and for two, we actually quite liked the day stages, whereas Yahtzee is <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/472-Sonic-Unleashed">revulsed</a>.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/zero-punctuation-takes-on-sonic-unleashed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation takes on Sonic Unleashed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/zero-punctuation-takes-on-sonic-unleashed/">Zero Punctuation takes on Sonic Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 18:11:00 EST. It's been a while since we've checked in with our old friend Yahtzee, so we were eager to hear his thoughts on one of our favorite games in recent memory: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Left-4-Dead/">Left 4 Dead</a></em>. And guess what?! He didn't hate it! ... Well, since we're still in Reality Prime, he had plenty of mean things to say about it, but he was probably as nice as he could be without some sort of dimensional shift.<br /><br />See how much of his assessment you agree with in the video <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/459-Left-4-Dead">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/zero-punctuation-almost-sort-of-likes-left-4-dead/">Zero Punctuation almost, sort of likes Left 4 Dead</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 09:25:00 EST. <br />For his latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> review, renowned intertubes misanthrope Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw has cast his jaded eye over Activision's <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero: World Tour</span>.<br /><br />Things start off well between reviewer and game (though <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band</span>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/rock-band-makes-it-to-australia-forgets-luggage/">troubled</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/rumor-australian-retailers-pass-on-rock-band/">relationship</a> with Australia undoubtedly has something to do with this) but Yahtzee soon finds assorted holes to pick at, with some of his targets including the pointlessness of Spanish language songs in an English language release, the new slide bar on <span style="font-style: italic;">World Tour</span>'s guitars, and the game's credentials as a karaoke simulator. Hit up <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/452-Guitar-Hero-World-Tour">The Escapist</a> for the review in full or simply jump past the break.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/26/guitar-hero-world-tour-gets-yahtzeed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Guitar Hero World Tour gets Yahtzeed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/26/guitar-hero-world-tour-gets-yahtzeed/">Guitar Hero World Tour gets Yahtzeed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Nov 2008 20:05:00 EST. <br />It's been a while since master of misanthropy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw</a> was featured on these pages, but now he's back, in full sneering mode, with a scathing review of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/the-force-unleashed-sells-1-5-million-copies-in-its-first-week/">colossally popular</a> <span style="font-style: italic;">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</span>. Like many of us, Yahtzee hoped the Wii's motion-sensing capabilities would open the door to a whole new galaxy of light saber swish-a-thons that <span style="font-style: italic;">worked</span>, only to be disappointed.<br /><br />His ire is eventually directed towards the "temperamental" Wii Remote, which he describes as "like playing any other console but with all the buttons randomly reassigned every couple of seconds." <span style="font-style: italic;">Ouch</span>. Bound past the jump for the full, <span style="font-weight: bold;">NSFW</span> review.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085657"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphpaujv0b-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085656"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphp48ks5v-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphp2mt0rq-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphp2cq0hy-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-4/#1085652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/tmpphpdz4gbf-swfu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/zero-punctuation-force-chokes-the-force-unleashed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation force chokes The Force Unleashed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/zero-punctuation-force-chokes-the-force-unleashed/">Zero Punctuation force chokes The Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 20:08:00 EST. Oh come now, don't look so surprised, you had to know this was coming. After Will Wright spent a stone cold decade building his delicate sand castle of simulated life, did you really think Yahtzee would be able to resist letting his editorial foot careen through the spires, coating young Will's glasses in sand and tears? Of course not.<br /><br />Yahtzee reiterates most of the complaints about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Spore/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Spore</span></a> you've heard from reviewers already, but at least he does it a lot more entertainingly than most of them. <div align="left">This week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> makes us wonder: What E3 is Yahtzee talking about? Perhaps things seemed different from the outside, but this year's show actually saw a slew of original titles -- shockingly enough, many from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/joystiq-live-at-electronic-arts-e3-2008-press-conference/">the maw of EA</a>. Sure, there is some serious sequelitus going on (and certain outlets really need to stop riding <strike><em>RE4</em> v2</strike> <span style="font-style: italic;">RE5</span>'s rooster), but we were pleasantly surprised by some of the new IPs. Oh well, no sense in trying to convey some semblance of reason here. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a>'s Yahtzee takes on both the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-indiana-jones" style="font-style: italic;">Lego Indiana Jones</a> game and the latest movie in his latest review. For his take on the game, the ornery critic comes up with an equation for figuring out how much you'll enjoy playing as Indy in the blockified platformer. <br />
<br />
If doing mathematicals isn't your thing, just think about how much fun you'll have killing Short Round -- or Willie -- over and over again. Although it still doesn't beat the cathartic Jar-Jar killing of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-star-wars"><em>Lego Star Wars</em></a> game.<br />

This week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> takes a long, hard and ironic look at the glut of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/webcomic">gaming webcomics</a>. Yes, Yahtzee fully realizes the hypocrisy of his words, but that's not going to stop him from flinging poo and keeping those traffic numbers high. We imagine it getting weird when Yahtzee's piece about webcomics spawns more comics about the subject and proves everything he's saying in the first place.<br /><br /><span style="text-decoration: underline;"></span>The NSFW ZP <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/zero-punctuation-draws-out-the-webcomic-template/">review of webcomics</a> can be found after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/zero-punctuation-draws-out-the-webcomic-template/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation draws out the webcomic template</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/zero-punctuation-draws-out-the-webcomic-template/">Zero Punctuation draws out the webcomic template</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Jul 2008 02:00:00 EST. Stepping into Electronic Arts' "EA3" event last week, we made a beeline for ... <em>Hasbro Family Game Night</em>, passing up the likes of <span style="font-style: italic;">Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Mercenaries 2</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Tiger Woods Golf 2009: Busted Knee Edition</span> along the way. We know, we know. But who can resist the lure of <span style="font-style: italic;">Battleship, Connect Four, Yahtzee, Boggle, Sorry</span> and its new sibling <span style="font-style: italic;">Sorry Sliders</span>? (Answer: you maybe; not us.)<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">OK, we have a situation. Yahtzee's latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> piece couldn't knock one out of the park with such a simple target like <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/haze">Haze</a>. Even standard reviews <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/metareview-haze/">did a good job</a> roasting it. The curmudgeon expat still trashes the game, but it's like he received a Nectar injection and was fighting the effects as he put together the review ... seriously, we're talking about the game that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/haze-down-to-40-at-gamestop/">can already be found for $40</a>. We're hoping this week's review is merely a hiccup and that <span style="font-style: italic;">Haze</span> will finally sink in on Yahtzee, making him go ballistic next week.<br /><br />Due to technical difficulties we are unable to post ZP after the break. <div style="text-align: left;"> To refill his rage this week, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation/">Zero Punctuation</a>'s Yahtzee took a trip back to the simpler time of 2006 and grabbed a copy of <em>The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion</em> off the new release shelf. Being a Western RPG, instead of a JRPG, the game actually stood a small chance of stealing Yahtzee's artificial heart. Of course, the problems with the voice acting and immersion that plagued the game when it first released haven't aged well. Yahtzee obviously takes the opportunity to jam a lead pipe into Oblivion and hoover out every last bit of hate he can. <br /><br />Find <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/75-Oblivion">this week's</a> NSFW ZP review of the game where Patrick Stewart plays the emperor for about 10 minutes after the break.</div>

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation/">Zero Punctuation</a> discovers <em>The World Ends With You</em> this week. This sudden realization has caused him to send his vast internet army to your house and kill you. Really! <em>Run</em>!<br />
<br />
Actually, <span style="font-style: italic;">The World Ends With You</span> is a JRPG that's been getting some <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/worldendswithyou?q=the%20world%20ends%20with%20you">strongly supportive reviews</a> from several outlets that do that reviewing sort of thing. As any disciple of Yahtzee knows at this point, he hates JRPGs and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/zero-punctuation-reviews-fanboys/">Nintendo</a> -- the jury is still out though on which one he hates more. <span style="font-style: italic;">TWEWY </span>gets off easy in this review by confusing Yahtzee to the point where he can't form an opinion and leaves it up to the audience.<br />

With such a vast catalog of high-profile, big-budget console games under his reviewing belt, Yahtzee risks life and limb this week to review <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/ds-fanboy-review-the-world-ends-with-you/"><em>The World Ends with You</em></a> on the DS. It may be known around these parts as a stellar action-RPG with outrageous originality and style, but we're well aware that no amount of praise can stop that affable British chap from offering a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">hefty serving</a> of hate.<br /><br />It's certainly a unique genre to tackle, and we know everyone is totally ready to accept his criticism in the most professional manner possible. Well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/zero-punctuation-reviews-fanboys/">maybe not</a>, but it makes for a funny video all the same! Hit the break for the full review.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/zero-punctuation-ends-the-world/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation Ends the World</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/zero-punctuation-ends-the-world/">Zero Punctuation Ends the World</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 May 2008 16:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation/">Zero Punctuation</a>'s Yahtzee rocks it old school this week in a trip down "kill everything you see" lane with a review of <span style="font-style: italic;">Painkiller</span>. Way back in 2004, which if internet time is converted to normal time is circa 1674, <span style="font-style: italic;">Painkiller</span> received <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/painkiller?q=painkiller">better-than-average</a> reviews by embracing the first-person shooter genre like it was the '90s and <span style="font-style: italic;">Doom</span> was still en vogue. So, this week Yahtzee talks about the game "where you kill tons of dudes" and gets comfortable for the relatively dry summer release schedule ... well, winter for him.<br />

Remember when your family used to put one night of the week aside to play board games, so that you'd grow closer to one another amongst bouts of innocent fun and mayhem? Yeah, neither do we. Hasbro does, though, which is why the company is bringing six of its most popular board games to the Wii, in one small package.<br />
<br />
Called <em>Family Game Night</em> (not to be confused with Wii Fanboy's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/game-night/">Game Night</a>), this title includes the following classics:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Connect Four</em></li>
    <li><em>Yahtzee</em> (not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation/">the one that curses a lot</a>)</li>
    <li><em>Battleship</em></li>
    <li><em>Boggle</em></li>
    <li><em>Sorry!</em></li>
    <li><em>Sorry! Sliders</em> (who wants to tell EA and Hasbro that this doesn't count as a "sixth" game?)</li>
</ul>
We know that going digital is the wave <em><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWTJ1YZJsYk">of the future</a></em>, but is anyone else slightly against the entire "board games turned video games" genre? Call us old-fashioned, but when we cheat at <em>Battleship</em>, we want to cheat with <em>style</em> -- not by looking at a TV screen.<br />
<br />
If you think differently, though, keep an eye out for <em>Family Game Night</em>, which will hit European Wiis this fall.<br />

Electronic Arts has finally revealed the fruits of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/ea-announces-intial-batch-of-hasbro-games-g-i-joe-sadly-absent/">recent partnership</a> with board game evangelist Hasbro, announcing <em>Hasbro Family Game Night</em>, a collection of classic board games for the Wii and PlayStation 2. Shipping this fall, the game will include a wide assortment of Hasbro properties -- six in all -- from <em>Battleship</em>, <em>Yahtzee</em>, <em>Boggle</em>, and <em>Connect Four</em> to <em>Sorry!</em> and its more recent incarnation in <em>Sorry! Sliders</em>.<br />
<br />
Purists will be happy to know that they'll be able to play the classic games as they remember, though EA notes that new versions will also be included as well for those looking for a different way to play. In addition, the collection will let players build and decorate a virtual game room, earn trophies, and play various mini-games once they tire of sinking each other's battleships. However, even with support for between two and four players, we doubt the compilation will have us tossing out our boxed favorites just yet, though at least with this game we know we'll never have to go searching though couch cushions for missing pieces before we can play.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/ea-announces-hasbro-family-game-night-for-wii-ps2/">EA announces Hasbro Family Game Night for Wii, PS2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 May 2008 09:50:00 EST. Apparently Yahtzee found the fanboy uproar over his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-beats-up-smash-bros-brawl-youre-surprised/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. Yahtzee finds his rage again this week and lashes out in a way that many professionals who make their living off the internet wish they could. Not us, of course, we're too heavily medicated and just allow the sea of hate to wash over us in waves of brilliant pinks and purples. Numbness is the first step to professional happiness on the internetz.<br /><br />Find Yahtzee's NSFW <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/4878-Zero-Punctuation-Mailbag-Showdown">love-letter</a> to fanboys after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/zero-punctuation-reviews-fanboys/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation reviews fanboys</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/zero-punctuation-reviews-fanboys/">Zero Punctuation reviews fanboys</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 May 2008 22:00:00 EST. <br />Were you one of the easily offended, outraged souls who took umbrage with Zero Punctuation's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-has-zero-tolerance-for-brawl/">more-than-scathing review</a> of <span style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. That's right: rather than dedicating this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> to the usual misanthropic, ranting reviews that we love so much, Yahtzee has answered the numerous critics of his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl"><span style="font-style: italic;">Brawl</span></a> review, which attracted over a thousand comments on the Escapist's site (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-has-zero-tolerance-for-brawl/#comments">quite a few</a> on here).<br /><br />Hit the break for the full, <span style="font-weight: bold;">NSFW</span> version, and prepare yourself for a chilling insight into the minds of the most irrational fanboys.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/zero-punctuation-reviews-fanboys/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation reviews fanboys</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/zero-punctuation-reviews-fanboys/">Zero Punctuation reviews fanboys</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 May 2008 19:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a>'s Yahtzee isn't content with taking on just <em>God of War: Chains of Olympus</em> this week. No, he takes on the whole bloody franchise. What we end up getting is almost four minutes of Yahtzee admitting that he's nitpicking and that the series helps give us relief from our <strike>9</strike> 8:30 to <strike>5</strike> 6 (with a half-hour lunch break) lives. The trademark Yahtzee anger just isn't there in this review, but considering it was overflowing in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-beats-up-smash-bros-brawl-youre-surprised/">last week's <em>Smash Bros.</em> piece</a>, an easing of tension might be good for a week.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/4845-Zero-Punctuation-Super-Smash-Bros-Brawl">This week's</a> NSFW review eviscerating <em>God of War: Chains of Olympus </em>can be found after the break. <span style="font-style: italic;"></span><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/zero-punctuation-takes-on-the-god-of-war/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation takes on the God of War</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/zero-punctuation-takes-on-the-god-of-war/">Zero Punctuation takes on the God of War</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Apr 2008 16:00:00 EST. This is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> that'll make the Nintendo Defense Force mobilize and threaten nuclear annihilation. This week Yahtzee takes on one of the Wii's golden cows with his <strike>review</strike> wholesale bludgeoning of <em>Super Smash Bros. Braw</em>l. For those just joining the ZP party, Yahtzee doesn't like Nintendo very much. If you love <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Smash-Bros-Brawl/"><em>SSBB</em>,</a> great. If you don't like it, that's great too. <br />Oh dear. This isn't going to be pretty. We're going to hazard a guess that Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw's opinion of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. Brawl</span></a> doesn't exactly coincide with the view taken by most of our readers -- frankly, it sounds like he hated every minute of Nintendo's scrapper.<br /><br />But before you start punching out that hate-filled, trembling-with-rage email to the man, <span style="font-style: italic;">stop right there</span> and hear him out, because you may just find yourself <span style="font-style: italic;">agreeing</span> with some of his points -- even <span style="font-style: italic;">we</span> had to concede that a number of his grievances have bugged us in the past. With that in mind, take some deep breaths and head past the break for one of the most venomous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> reviews to date, and the usual dose of <span style="font-weight: bold;">NSFW</span> language.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-has-zero-tolerance-for-brawl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation has zero tolerance for Brawl</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-has-zero-tolerance-for-brawl/">Zero Punctuation has zero tolerance for Brawl</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 17:00:00 EST. <span style="font-style: italic;"></span><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> discovers that we could use another hero (<a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=1p2VjKueoBA">and a way home</a>) in this week's review of Suda 51's <span style="font-style: italic;">No More Heroes</span>. Rightful finger-pointing at Suda 51's pretentiousness starts the review, but it soon gets slashed away by Yahtzee's belief that <span style="font-style: italic;">No More Heroes</span> does offer something "different." As we all know, "different" is this industry's version of the <em>Monopoly</em> "Get Out of Jail Free" card. It won't save a game from nasty reviews, but the cuts are certainly less deep.<br /><br />Thunderdome your way to <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/3554-Zero-Punctuation-No-More-Heroes">this week's</a> NSFW review of <span style="font-style: italic;">No More Heroes</span> after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/zero-punctuation-believes-in-no-more-heroes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation believes in No More Heroes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/zero-punctuation-believes-in-no-more-heroes/">Zero Punctuation believes in No More Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Apr 2008 23:00:00 EST. The normally solitary Yahtzee (he is a PC snob after all) takes on <em>Army of Two</em> this week, a game designed to be played co-op -- so we already know this is going to end badly. After becoming frustrated with his computer partner's AI, he decides to invite a friend over and proceeds to become frustrated with his human companion's abilities as well. Like any listener of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/joystiq-podcast-041-army-of-three-edition/">Joystiq Podcast</a> already knows, <em>Army of Two</em> has a lot of issues, the least of which is forgetting that for a co-op action shooter it sort of missed the boat on creating an enjoyable co-op experience.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Zack &amp; Wiki</span> is the target of this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> review and thankfully the game comes out relatively unscathed. Sure, there are remarks about the Wii being for children, the annoying noises the characters make and the gimmicky use of the Wiimote -- but, really, how many Wii games don't conjure up those ideas?* <br />
<br />
The main thing Yahtzee points out is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zackandwiki" style="font-style: italic;">Zack &amp; Wiki</a> delivers on that smug feeling adventure gamers get when they figure out a puzzle without using GameFAQs, which is essentially what will keep players going ... even when they invariably die over and over again for poking something they shouldn't have. <br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> tries to be helpful this week by beating <em>Turok</em> with blunt vocabulary and attempting to help other first person shooter developers not make the same mistakes. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> takes a spin in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnoutparadise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a> this week and discovers that cars have taken over Paradise City and people are nowhere to be found. The main sticking point Yahtzee has with the game is that while <em>Burnout Paradise</em> has an open world like <em>Grand Theft Auto</em>, requiring the player to look at a map during a high-speed chase is a bit awkward. He realizes the game isn't designed for him, but rather for people who don't have time to play games and are too busy having carnal relations.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/3016-Zero-Punctuation-Burnout-Paradise">This week's</a> NSFW review of <em>Burnout Paradise</em>, involving a joke about female menstruation and biscuit mutilation, can be found after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, Sam]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/zero-punctuation-doesnt-find-paradise-in-burnout/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation doesn't find paradise in Burnout</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/zero-punctuation-doesnt-find-paradise-in-burnout/">Zero Punctuation doesn't find paradise in Burnout</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Mar 2008 18:00:00 EST. Did you feel that <em>Devil May Cry 4</em> was so busy with its own style that it neglected to actually let you <em>play</em> -- well, so did Yahtzee. This week <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation">Zero Punctuation</a> takes on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dmc4"><em>DMC 4</em></a>, the game which pulled a <em>Metal Gear Solid 2</em> on us and introduced a character who was kind of like our original hero, but totally not. Don't be upset with Yahtzee's rage <em>DMC</em> fanboys, take solace in the knowledge that your beloved franchise has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/devil-may-cry-4-sheds-2-million-tears/">already shipped 2 million copies</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/3001-Zero-Punctuation-Devil-May-Cry-4">This week's</a> less NSFW than usual review of <span style="font-style: italic;">Devil May Cry 4</span> can be found after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/05/zero-punctuation-tears-up-devil-may-cry-4/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation tears up Devil May Cry 4</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/05/zero-punctuation-tears-up-devil-may-cry-4/">Zero Punctuation tears up Devil May Cry 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Mar 2008 21:00:00 EST.
